Hi All,
I'm just a tad over 70k miles. Saw a good deal on Mobil1 5W 30 but it's the high mileage variety. I'm assuming I qualify for that?
Has anyone had any adverse effects with this mix?

To the best of my knowledge, the only thing different between high mileage oils and regular mileage oils is that the HM versions just have a higher level of anti-wear additives and seal conditioning additives. Otherwise shouldn’t make all that much difference so I wouldn’t see why there would be adverse affects.

Mixture of opinion and various accumulated tidbits of info over a number of years. Take it with a grain of sand, your mileage may vary.

anyone run Liqui Moly before? I have never heard anyone bash it. I know its praised in the German market, they have been turboing cars for a long time and I'd assume it would be oil to use.

A thread about oil can evoke all sorts of emotional responses. You can spend high or low on oil depending on the brand. Best option is to use 5W 30 as required by Ford and change sooner than what the oil life monitor indicates. I don't think you can go wrong with Mobil One, but would 70,000 miles be considered high mileage in a modern car? Not sure.
Ligui Moly would be considered a premium oil outside of Europe.

107K on the clock…regular Mobil 1 whenever the dash goes off…no early services. Tuned on 93 and E50 since 5K miles. Car runs like new.
How many miles do you get when the dash goes off? I've always changed before that happened.

You will be fine with any oil as long as it has SN or SP(newer) API spec. There are specifics for DIT engines that matter with these grades. Also extended drain is possible, but greatly depends on the type of driving and oil used. Me personally even with some of the best oils (I use Amsoil Signature mostly) would not push beyond 5K miles on a turbo engine. Shorter trips especially in cooler climates where the engine won't get up to temp for extended periods will wreck oil life faster than anything else.

Your last sentence is why I run long on changes…my trips are never short and I live in a hot climate. Hell half the miles on my car are cross country road trips. I don’t buy into the turbo argument though…I’ve had turbo or supercharged cars and trucks exclusively for decades and never had any need to shorten the recommended oil change intervals. Our Powerstroke, Cummins and now Duramax fleet trucks regularly and normally go 10k or more between oil changes and they work substantially harder than any ST ever will.

I've been using it in my Ranger since I first bought it with 86K miles and it now has 279K miles on it and no problems. I live in New England and deal with the cold climate. I just switch over to Mobil1 in my ST at 44K (2nd oil change).

The Mobil 1 is SP rated. One of the first to do it. It’s perfect for the ST. Go with it and don’t look back. Like mentioned, the interval depends on your driving habits. If pretty much long trips with little idling you may go out to the recommended 10k, or follow the Oil Life Indicator. but in my definitely mixed driving I would/will never go past 7500, but I change it at 5k mile intervals in all my cars. Shorter intervals in my bikes and I ride them minimum of 40 miles every time one is started up.

I never even look. 7500 give or take I think?
Ok. I'm at 7700. I'll wait for the dash to see what it says.

I'm already subscribed to Mobil 1 and also use Royal Purple. My primary concern was moving to the high mileage variety. After the responses here and further search, I've determined that it's ok for the mileage on this ST.

Are there any oil filter preferences for the ST or will any good filter do?
Fram, K&N, STP, Mobil 1, STP, AC Delco?

I like the fram titanium which is a synthetic media filter.
And yes, fram used to be a bottom budget name.
generally speaking, any synthetic fiber (usually glass) will filter better and flow better than any cellulose media filter.

I go with any synthetic brand name. Not a huge difference for cartridge style. Usually Wix but any synthetic will do for me.

I'd dump 6 brand new quarts of crap oil rather than wait for the next interval.
I've done it before. I'll do it again.

Wix XP if you are doing 5000+ mile intervals for changes. It is designed for extended drain. It actually filters smaller particles less efficiently as a sacrifice to be able to continue flowing through extended drain intervals and not go into bypass mode too early. This way it can still pick up the larger particles the whole interval. Wix Premium filters if you are doing 5000 mile or less intervals. It is overall more efficient at smaller micron stuff, but is not a good idea for extended drain as you run the risk of it going into bypass mode if the media gets up to capacity.

I've also used Amsoil filters in the past, they rate well for extended intervals also. There are other good brands and models and many Frams do very well especially their higher end models.

This is from my own research watching people doing tests and deconstruction reviews. Plenty on youtube!
