Update!

The dealer said they can't just check the fluid level so given I was at 60K miles I just had them do the service.

Definitely shifts smoother and the 3rd gear thump is actually way less. Makes me wonder how filled the transmission fluid was from the factory?

Of course the brakes developed a shimmy after I picked it back up from the dealer

Dennis.

They lied to you! Literally would take them 15 minutes to check the fluid (provided it was up to operating temp).

Thanks everyone for the truth info!

Given my mileage, the constant 3rd gear thumps since purchase, and the relatively low $200 price to service in SoCal I decided not to make it an issue in the moment and had them do the service.

It's a PIA for me to drop my car at my dealer and it includes an out of pocket rental for me so usually I defer to less time and back and forth.

Will know for next time though.

Thanks everyone!

Dennis.

The dealer(s) count on you to do that, so they can rape you with worthless “service” charges. The situation for logical, knowledgeable technicians and service writers is beyond “repair” in this decade. It will be two full generations (~40 years) before any person younger than 50 will be worth their weight in society, if ever again…

So after transmission service and much smoother shifting overall, I retested the original issue in the same place.

Uphill toll road decent grade going 70ish, floor gas and transmission goes into neutral. I can slowly accelerate to full throttle but I can't just mash the pedal.

Maybe the combination of speed and hill grade are too much for the computer to let me accelerate/downshift?

Stupid computer won't let me ruin my transmission

dennis- did it sound like this
I’ve been having this happen on and off dealers cannot replicate and just keep programming the TCM/ PCM and sending me on my way. No DTCs are stored but I get the audible and dash lights up with Shift Sys Fault but never stays on or adds the wrench light so dealers ignore me and send me on my way.

Nope, sorry. No grinding. Or dramatic music

Just revving with no power like in neutral.
