Subwoofer enclosure between rear seat captain's chairs

I was just wondering if anyone has done a subwoofer enclosure between the rear seat captain's chairs in one of these STs? Main reason, I'm using my Explorer to haul DJ gear, and I figure if designed correctly, the enclosure could close the gap between the rear seat captain's chairs when I have to bring EVERYTHING with me. I'd probably do something like a down firing Digital Designs 2508g there.

It is either that or I just make a removable subwoofer setup for when I have to haul gear in the cargo area. I have a pair of Bostwick HD10s in storage that I NEVER used but they would need a 3 cubic foot ported enclosure to give me some decent low end. I'm not new to making removable enclosures either as I helped a buddy with his 240SX drift car by utilizing Anderson Powerpole connectors. Basically, unclip the speaker wires, remove enclosure, flip switch to keep the amp from powering on.

The messed up thing is I like to listen to music at a moderate volume on my way to a gig, then I want peace and quiet on the ride home, lol. All I know is the factory B&O subwoofer is too anemic for my tastes.

Will it fit and play? Sure.
It won’t work very well though…there’s no boundary to load off of so output will be reduced. Aim it backwards if anything…forward would be worse.

I was thinking down firing with the port back. Would loading off the floor not work? I haven't used Digital Designs subs in forever and I remember building a friend's CRX where we did a Lexan loading wall on his four 1508s on 4kw of power. God that thing was stupid loud...

If I was doing that I’d fire the port down as well. Just keep the port mouth 1X the diameter of the port off the floor to avoid any noise. Should work really well.

So, let's say I was to use those Bostwick 10s. Is this the typical subs up port back vehicle like nearly every other hatch style vehicle? I'm not opposed to a removable sub, but would rather make something that stays in all the time, just in case I want to jam.

I have a 10" Alpine sub and it fits right in the rear storage compartment. It's obviously not gonna win any awards but, combined with the Focal woofers in the doors, it's plenty loud enough for the average person.

I think I am going to lean towards a removable option in the hatch. I have concerns that downloading off the floor in the middle of the cabin will be less than optimal sound wise.

As long as you have a boundary to load off of you’ll be fine. The floor is that boundary in a downfire configuration.

Taking a 3 cubic foot box in and out will get old real fast.

I removed the 3rd row seats and added a whole complete part from the hatch to rhe 2nd row captions seats . I added a front firing sub and a large storage and 2 small storage spots

WOW! That's a nice set up! Good work. I also put my amps where the OEM sub was.
