Long story short, hit a deer and caused minor damage. Auto insurance will replace front grill and side mirror. If there are other things that need to be fixed, how do I go about getting that included?

I've hit 2 over the years and had my preferred body shop fix it. I think insurance companies allow the shops to account for unseen damages.

Take to good body shop and they will report all damage to insurance. Hidden and visible

It's completely common for body shops or DIY'ers to have what are called "add ons" to claims as work begins and other things are found to be damaged from the incident. Body shops reach out to your insurance company and get it taken care of. Most of the time you aren't even made aware of it.

I guess I found a bad body shop. Because they said they'll look into it, then submitted their findings and didn't include it.

Damn.

Thats unfortunate. Normally they will submit the initial claim for approval. Take it apart to confirm and then submit any new findings. As long as you're under the threshold for an in person adjuster it's pretty seamless. Depending on dollar amount and company they may fight you on original parts and try to nickel and dime the shop. No reason they shouldn't put it at least the same as it was prior.

Agree. Thats been the case with personal and business vehicles of mine. They do an initial assessment. Then if the body shop sees more damage underneath they get the adjuster to approve the additional cost.

Your issue is one of the many reasons I always try to stay involved in the process both with the body shop and adjuster.

In your case I would reach out to your adjuster and discuss the issue. They are the group responsible for making it right. Good luck!

On a side note, my insurance guy is a great friend of mine and will get involved directly with the insurance company if there are issues like yours.
