SSC Tuatara 331MPH...

Anyone else interested in this kinda stuff?

Been following the top speed records and rivalries for a while now, going back to the F40 and McLaren F1, and recently between Koenigsegg, Bugatti, and SSC. I even tried my hand in it on a 625rwhp turbo Suzuki Hayabusa that my buddy and I built, but we were still 30MPH shy of Bill Warner's record, may he rest in peace.

But 331MPH in a production car is just plain bananas, and the fact that they still went 301MPH in the bad direction just shows how well designed this car is. I wasn't a fan of the Ultimate Aero regardless of how fast it was, but the Tuatara now has my heart.

That's literal insanity lol. What kind of engine is in that thing?! Also, I'm pretty sure that car pulls harder over 300 MPH than most average cars pull over 100 MPH.

It is a Nelson Racing engine, making 1,750HP. That isn't the impressive part though, it is the design of the vehicle, how it directs airflow, and the low coefficient of drag.

And yeah, the driver said it pulled an extra 20MPH in 5 seconds once it hit 300.

Yea, the aero has to be excellent, because 1750 HP (is A LOT) but not when you consider the Chiron makes 1500 but has a top speed of 70 MPH below the Tuatara. I'm sure this can also partially be attributed to weight but even all the weight reduction in the world won't matter if you can't dial in the aerodynamics. If I am not mistaken, vortex shedding is a much bigger aero issue with most modern cars simply based on the way they're designed. I'd be interested to see what the rear end of this thing looks like and all of the mechanisms used to direct airflow around the vehicle.

super into that stuff. its astonishing that the driver said their limitations weren't horsepower, drag, tarmac room, or any of that stuff, but rather crosswinds. that car (and apparently the bespoke michelins) had more left in it!

Yeah, the crosswinds were between 5-7MPH he said, and would shift the car 6' to either side. That is a 340MPH car for sure given the right conditions, possibly more.

So it seems SSC faked the results, lied about having Dewetron validate the results and data, and is basically getting called out by most of the car community.

It doesn't need to pop wheelies to be cool.. these hypercars are insane. what is even more astonishing is how calm and collected the driver was getting to 300 mph. My heart races anything above 120 and I feel like I can't breathe. Lol.

I had seen that also but even if he fudged a bit he still approaching 300 mph which is remarkable in itself. 30 years ago Miss Budweiser did it and the world took notice. Remarkable with they are achieving.

Wrong... no one was ever like, “Hey look at that kid riding a bike not popping wheelies... that’s so cool.”
