Capless Fuel Lock

Hi all;

Has anyone purchased a locking plug or something similar for their capless fuel fillers? I’m not a big fan of how exposed the filler is, and the flap doesn’t lock either apparently. Today I came home to find my fuel flap open, nothing obvious in terms of tampering but I’d like some kind of security in there. I see products do exist (https://accessories.ford.ca/locking-fuel-plug.html for instance) but thus far I haven’t seen one that is listed as compatible with the 2020, and while I can’t imagine all that much has changed between 2019 and 2020 in terms of the filler neck, I don’t want to waste money on the wrong thing. My local Ford dealer couldn’t even find anything at all in their accessories line to recommend.

Anyone have a recommendation, or happen to know if the 2019 fuel filler is the same as the 2020?

Well I thought it would but I was able to open and close mine with the car locked. Unless I’m doing something totally wrong, or something is wrong with the car lol

im pretty sure the fuel door is part of the seal of the cap. so i dont think you can put something on the actual fuel fill.

Did you have your keys on you? I cant check my ST right this moment but our Platinum 100% locks the fuel door.

I need to check this next time I go to the garage

Update: Couldn't resist, went to the garage in the middle of the night and checked it out. It does NOT lock, tried everything, locked with Keyfob, Locked with the lock touch button on the door handle, keyfob with me, Keyfob far far way etc. the fuel door still opens when the car is locked. It is surprising that Thrax8825 who tested this on ST and Platinum and has it locked along with the door. So is this something to do with the build date and if Ford removed it after a certain point or is this just more failures and just few vehicles are working as expected? Just curious

Just confirmed on my 2020 ST. Even with the keys in my pocket as long as the door is locked I was unable to open the fuel door.

You got me to go try mine. It opens no matter if the doors are locked or not. There seems to be lots of differences in these things.

It turns out I am a complete moron. Both the ST and Platinum do NOT lock. I am very sorry for the misinformation and confusion.

Not understanding these cars does NOT make you a moron. Nobody completely understands them.

Yeah agree, especially the manufacturer changing things every year and sometime even in the middle of a production year (like the later 2020 Explorer lost the owners manual slot in the glovebox and we were all confused the same way)

Ford makes a locking plug for the filler neck. Click the link in his post.

Doesn’t fit. I bought it locally from a dealer. Don’t fit at all. Not even slightly.

The link posted on this thread is compatible only for Explorers until 2019, that's what the ford website says atleast.

Correct. I bought it on a gamble that Ford hadn’t changed the filler neck between 2019 and 2020, because really why would they - but apparently they did. I gambled, I lost.

Oh crap, I see what you mean, it does look similar so don't blame you for trying.

I can open my fuel door even when the vehicle is locked. If somebody finds some type of lock for the filler cap please post it..

Been checking occasionally - nothing. Haven’t even seen an aftermarket equivalent.
