1000 mile oil change.

I just passed 1000 miles today. Changed the oil. It’s running and shifting like a dream. Zero issues. It was fun to finally be able to get on it. I run 93 Octane all the time. I’m averaging 19.4 mpg.

My first ever new Ford. So far it’s a dream. Feels a lot bigger than my 07 SS Trailblazer, it is, but it’s super fun to drive and I Love the technology so far.

Since I’m overseas, we don’t have access to a Ford dealership, so I have to order filters. Which brand did you use, and do you have the part number?

I just had the oil changed for the first time at a little over 1000 miles. I was thinking about doing it myself but mine came with free service so I let the dealer do it. The service manager understood about a 1000 mile oil change, but the guy doing the work looked at me strange. Maybe I'm too old fashioned, but I told him it's my engine and my money.

i’m pretty sure they bench test these engines at the plant.. and i’m hoping the engineers know what they’re doing with the programming, otherwise the vehicle wouldn’t give you the oil life information.. with that being said, i’ve never broken in an engine on any new car.. wide open throttle kinda guy from 0 miles.. never had any issues.. but i understand when people go through their process for tradition’s sake or whatnot.. enjoy your cars, fellas.

In the late 60's and early 70's I had a job that issued me a Dodge Police car with the 440 Hemi engine. They were driven hard from the first day and had the oil changed every couple of thousand miles. We never had a bit of engine trouble with them.

I'm at 691 miles, just being easy on her until I change the oil at a 1000 miles. Probably going K&N for the oil filter. Haven't decided on oil yet, I've run Mobil 1 and Pennzoil Platinum in my other cars. I ran Motorcraft in my 6.7 powerstroke. Going to do more research on oil for the ecoboosts.

Let us know what you come up with. I’m ready to hit 1,000 miles myself and plan on doing the first early oil change myself. For me it’s either Mobil 1 or Amsoil 5/30.

After doing some research on bobistheoilguy, I have read that Castrol Magnatec 5w30 seems to hold up very well against fuel dilution and viscosity breakdown and other results after reading owners oil analysis reports in the forum for ecoboost engines. Seems to be very popular choice among EB owners. These engines are very hard on the oil. Also read that 4-5k mile oil change intervals are a must. After tomorrow's 200 mile round trip, I will be at my 1000 mile break in, and time to change the oil.

wix filter and amsoil Z-rod is the only oil I will run. I have had great results in all my other ecoboost vehicles.

Will the dealers use K&N filters, and oil other than motor craft if you request it?
Or , you guys changing it yourself. and, does it affect your warranty?

My first Ecoboost (soon to be) so I'm curious about the oil and filters.

I've always changed the oil on all my new cars at 1000 miles as I've always burned in the barrel on a new hi performance rifle

I always do mine only for the fact that I know the filter was changed and the correct amount of oil was put in. Also, I like to stay with the same brand of oil for the life of the car. Did my first at 1,000 with Wix filter and Mobil 1 5/30. I have 4,200 on it now. Will change every 4,000 or once a year so 2 months to go (have a company car so few miles are put on the ST). Keep your receipts and your warranty won’t be affected. They only use Motorcraft parts and oil at the dealerships.

I only use Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil and as of late you can even get the K&N oil filters at Walmart. I will also go by the oil change indicator for the first few times. Was wondering if anyone knows if a break in oil is still used and should be kept in for a certain amount of miles?
