Steeda Lowering Springs Install

Hey Everyone. I dropped the Explorer off at Ford this morning to get the Steeda springs installed and they said I needed additional hardware and the stock spring hardware would not work. Is that true? I figured the springs would come with everything I needed if in fact those needed to be changed. Any info would be great.

It's a straight up spring swap. That said, i think maybe a couple bolts are one time use but look stout enough to reuse which is what we all do. Maybe ask them specifically what they are talking about.

Cool. Thanks. He did mention having to replace bolts but I am ok with reusing the originals. They only have 6k miles.

It has nothing to do with mileage on the bolts... They are TTY(torque to yield) i.e. they stretch when they are torqued(the torque spec is usually something like xx ft. lbs then xxx degrees). They are "officially" a 1 time use bolt. I can see a Ford dealership not wanting to re-use them and in some other application(cylinder head bolts) I would agree with them, but as long as you dont get silly with the re-torque they can usually be re-used at least once.

Interesting. Do you know how many bolts are required or the name so I can purchase them?

Your Explorer is at the Ford dealership right? Just let them replace them. Guarantee they have them on the shelf. Might cost more than what you can buy them for online, but whatever. Oh I see you are in Germany... maybe they dont have them then, but I would assume they can source them

Yea that’s the issue here in Germany. They don’t sell explorers. I may wait until I get back to the states.

Just go to a shop that routinely does lowering springs installs and reuse the bolts. With H&R and Eibach based in Germany, I'd think that would be an easy task.

Thanks. I’ll check into that. Unfortunately, Germany hasn’t figured out how to NOT lockdown so our options are minimal.

I'm also curious as to what the Ford dealership would normally charge for a spring swap.

I've seen a bunch of pictures of both the HR and Steeda springs. Unless these were sitting side by side I don't think I could tell which is which.

Are the Steeda ones that have the rake at the rear?

Steeda on ours. There is a slight rake, which I’m quite happy to have. I don’t want it dragging it’s butt when loaded.
