Hello,

I live in the DC area and there are several 2020 STs available. I know the difference between model years in minimal, however, I'm more concerned with build date and quality. I've read the horror stories of early adopters.

There are great deals on 2020s. The only I see have build dates between July 2020 and September 2020.

Newer 2021s have build dates of March 2021.

What are your opinions?

At the end of the day I‘d have to imagine it comes down to just exactly how great the deal is. You have to strike a deal that is good enough not only to be enticing on the front end but a deal that covers the back end when selling it as a year older vehicle when that time comes. Lot’s of people simply don’t consider this inevitable fact, it will be worth less and the actual month that it was built makes little difference the day you sell it. Blue Book values don’t take that into consideration, it’s either a 20’ or it’s a 21’. Something like a $5K Delta on like vehicles wouldn’t do it for me. What kind of prices are you seeing?

Having said all that, the 20’s had the front camera washer, glove box light and console light and I’d bet a few other things that were dropped on the 21’s. I think the 21’s picked up a frame stiffening brace underneath but don’t hold me to that.

Not as good as I would like it seems. A lot of the dealers are being conservative because the plants are shut down and they won't be getting any new cars in

And remember the 2020 was what, 3000 or 3500 more MSRP than the 2021.

I tried to make a deal on a leftover 2020. The deal looked great until I factored in the MSRP difference from a 20 to a 21. It only ended up being like a 1500 dollar difference. Which I figured would make up the difference on re-sale value later on in life.

Yea. The dealers don't care at the moment that new 2021s are 2.4k cheaper right off the bat

I searched Autotrader or Cars.com. There's some '20s left out there, options are pretty much limited. Seen some for 10 grand off sticker, might be a tease. depends how far you're willing to drive for a deal. Wouldn't hurt to call on some of them and make an offer.
