Best way to find out the weight from RWD vs AWD would be checking the weight differences on the Platinum as it currently offers both options. Can't find any on the RWD tho.

I’m satisfied with the AWD setup on our 21 ST. No worries about the snow & hills in our area as opposed to a RWD setup. I’m also grateful for the chance to own a 400hp ST, knowing that the push is on from Washington to put us all in ‘plug me in ‘ electric cars in the ever nearing future…. Until the car makers can ensure 1.21 gigawatts & a flux capacitor, I’m not inclined to go 100 miles and find a plug to charge up for another 100 miles….
So if Ford puts the 3.0l in other variations, or rebadges lesser varieties with “ST Line”…
so be it. We know what’s under our hood and in our blood. People have rebadged cars since the Fred Flinstone Days: just look at all the Subaru WRX owners rebadging them to appear as STis, or the Chevy Chevelle’s to SS396s, or…. Marcellus with his cheating razor hubcaps on his chariott, we know who had the better horsepower in that race—-
Ben-Hur….
Enjoy our hard earned STs, we will look back with pride as in the near future the Biffs and other Buttheads in Washington push electric on us….

RWD is cool, but it snows here so I'm taking awd.

Either way, 13.8ish stock is quick, but it's not like it's an uber performance vehicle. RWD should be quicker with a good launch though.

I'm most interested in the 2022 getting a class IV towing hitch. Does that mean we will get the 6700lb capacity the Lincoln had in 20 and 21, since the only difference is they had a class IV w/6700lbs to Explorers Class III w/5600lbs?

Looks like our ST's won't be the only Explorers to have the 400hp engine anymore. According to Ford, the Platinum and the King Ranch will gain
our tune for 2022. Not sure how I feel about this. Bad enough the do an ST Line than mimics the looks, but now they are making 2 other
trim levels with the same power. Kind of diminishes the exclusivity of the ST model.

Feel like there’s gotta be a couple other ST specific tweaks to differentiate other than looks. One can wish. Perhaps more brake, suspension, options - one can hope.

According to Ford.com the ST continues with the 3.58 gears but the other 3.0TT trucks get 3.16.

Suspension is tweaked differently on the ST as well and you been able to get different brake options since when they were first released.

I would love it if they would drop a 5.0 Coyote into the Explorer and keep it awd. Slap a Gen 5 whipple and it would be a beast!

Any V8 would be good with me. I still want to see an EcoBoost V8, I think this platform would be a good home for it.

Wont hear about it as im sure it'll never happen. Dont think its ever been done before unless it was a recall due to a fact of the car not making the advertised power.

Horsepower on those models will not be 400hp I think they said it will be about 360hp.

"Up until now, the Explorer's 400-hp 3.0-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V-6 was reserved for ST models only, with the Platinum application of the same engine detuned to 365 hp. Not anymore. For 2022, the Platinum and even the King Ranch trim grades get the full-strength V-6 EcoBoost treatment."

This is official. The Platinum previously had a 365hp detuned 3.0L. For 2022, it and the King Ranch have the same 400hp 3.0L as the ST. The ST will have a higher gear ratio than the other two (3.58 vs. 3.16), so they are not quite the same performance wise.

LOL There's no such thing as exclusivity in mass-produced cars. If you want exclusivity you need to spend $ in 6 or 7 digit quantity. If not so monetarily inclined, maybe just enjoy what you purchased?

Im kinda with you on this, the whole idea of the ST is trim level exclusivity with black out treatment, special graphics and the models top level performance with 400HP, special suspension tuning, special EPAS tuning, performance rear end gearing, performance brakes, etc etc.

I don't know if its the same now but years ago GM always gave the Escalade a few more HP then the Yukon Denali even with the both having the big 6.2L V8. It was a trim level esclusive.

Raptor does the same thing.

So I just came across a new (demo) King Ranch AWD for about $51K, curious if there's anything I would be missing out on performance wise going with the king ranch instead of the ST, or is it all just cosmetic? Do I get kicked from the forum if I buy a king ranch :LOL:? Figured this would be the best place I've found to ask this question.

Suspension. Easy to fix if you want the better handling but stiffer ride of the ST.
Brakes (if you get the ST Street Pack). Also easy to remedy via the aftermarket,
Gears. ST has shorter gearing, which is a bit harder to remedy as you need to buy a whole new diff, either a regular ST one or the Torsen diff from a Timberline.

You'll also miss out on the paddle shifters. I'll be pulling the steering wheel on my Platinum to see if I can add the paddle shifters from the ST sometime later this year. I haven't been able to find any documentation or anything stating if it's possible or not. With all the money you're saving, you could swap the axles, suspension, and rear crossmember and still be under what the MSRP on the KR. Probably even roll it all into your loan. Roof rack delete could be the same story as well.
