2022 Explorer ST picked it up on Thursday. Not even sure where to start. It’s my daily driver with 2 kids seats in the back. Looking to learn from others what some starting areas for performance are. In truth, I haven’t even opened it up yet. Was told by the dealer to be gentle for the first couple hundred miles before I drop the hammer, although reading online seems to say there is no break in period required. Open to any feedback and nice to meet ya’ll.

Welcome! I think you can get into it but don’t keep the rpm’s up for for very long. Quick brief accelerations will be totally fine.

There is no 'break in' oil, but I do agree with dealer to be somewhat gentle for the first few hundred miles.

Be advised that the oil your new ST comes with is not full Synthetic. Also you need to check your oil level right away. Many are being shipped with the oil not being full. Also when you check your out, let it sit for a few minutes to get an accurate reading.

Cost saving or something else?
I am pretty sure the car only needs semi synthetic. People just prefer to put full synthetic for its benefits.

Yup, you’re right. I found it on page 394 of the manual.

Whether specified from Ford or not, after break-in, I find no reason to not run synthetic. Yes it is a little more expensive but it offers so much more insurance in extreme conditions.

Welcome. These STs are a lot of fun and they're a great daily driver. Definitely go to Asheville, NC for the free ST experience. Great way to enjoy the vehicle, learn a bit about it, and it's an awesome location for a short trip. Plenty to learn on here!

I have the same color, same options it looks like but I got it without the roof rails. I also have 2 car seats in it and babied mine until around 1000 miles. Congrats

Congrats, nice truck!
They now have roof rack delete which makes it look way more streamlined. IMO

Sorry who’s they? Ford offers this? I’m in Toronto and when I bought mine last month the salesman had no idea what I was talking about when I asked him. Would love to do that

Was told it was an option when ordering.
I have the 400A package so it may differ on the 401A package.

The roof rack is not standard on 2021 and 2022 ST. It is a $250 option to include it.
