What does those new setting menus offer you? Any other changes especially connection related?

we just update those by going to to that 192..etc address right?

I didn’t notice too much difference in performance. Yes visit 192.168.50.2 while connected to the carlinkit adapter.

did the update. No difference on my end. But everything still works great for me so I’ll take that.

Found a cheap wireless CarPlay dongle that actually works and passes through media/track info consistently to the car!

It’s on sale for $59 right now too. The AW1006 also support airplay mirroring.

Way better than my carlinkit and ottocast adapters so I thought I would share!

Curious what is better? My carlinkit works great. 10-12 seconds I’d say to connect and than is flawless. I think the next one I get is those boxes that allow you to download android apps.

The connection time is fine with my Carlin. The issue is the track info does not consistently display. For example when the track is playing, the song title sometimes gets stuck or doesn't display at all in the bottom of the vertical display and instrument cluster. Then it will suddenly work. Sometimes this happens several times during a single drive.

Ah yes I have noticed that with mine as well. Didn’t know if it was a car, adapter, or CarPlay issue. I say that because I used the same adapter on my 17 explorer and never had that issue. Only started with my ST. Maybe there’s just a compatibility issue. Otherwise the carlinkit truly works great. Thanks for the info.

Thanks - I literally have purchased every single type and brand of these dongles and ai boxes.

This ankeway is the best yet. Since I've posted and the track / media info has never fallen out of sync or frozen like the carlinkit. Its worth it to go with the ankeway for this car (its cheaper anyway).

Hmmm good to know. I’m trying to decide if it’s worth the $70 to just have the media info display correctly.

I was reading the description on Amazon and it mentions something about AirPlay. Can I cast videos to the screen?

The smaller AW1006 dongle is only $55 shipped last I checked on amazon and works great as well. I also just ordered another brand/model that just released to try that is ~$60 I will report back if it works as well as the ANKEWAY AW1006 and AW1008.

The casting functionality is broken and beta at best. It doesn't work in our cars for the ANKEWAY dongle with the current firmware they are running at all.

Still not sure it’s worth putting the extra at this point. Which one has connected the fastest? I think my carlinkit takes about 10-12 seconds. The only issue is the media display but it doesn’t bother me very much.

this new KAVIMN one boots and connects a few seconds faster than the ANKEWAY. So I’ll recommend that one. I’m not kidding when I say I have 20 different types of these dongles and AI boxes lol as soon as they come out I buy and test if they work I keep them. I’m one of the moderators for CarPlay box development, working with the sellers and distributors for updates and logging issues as well as rooting and customizing in my spare time.

can’t go wrong with either of these they have been solid.

As another plus, I use Soundy (SoundCloud app) and with Carlinkit, most of the time the CarPlay app would not log me in. I'd have to go to my phone and access the app to get auto log-in. I thought it was just a problem with the app but now am thinking the problem was with Carlinkit. With the KAVIMN, the CarPlay Soundy app works perfectly--no need to use my phone! NICE.

I may go back and try Waze to see if the glitches were Carlinkit related and not just a CarPlay issue.

Waze has been working nicely with my carlinkit. So it should work well with the kavimn.

Waze works perfect with the ANKEWAY and KAVIMN dongles

I'm testing this one now but it does not pass through media info. I'm trying to get the developer to address. It supports wireless android auto and carplay and also has an android UI for chromecast/airplay when connected to wifi. Sadly, iPhone hotspot does not let you airplay from the same phone that is providing the personal hotspot blah... you need a second phone connected to the hotspot to do the casting or use a standalone hotspot/wifi network. Android I believe does allow the same phone providing the hotspot to chromecast though to it. It would be nice if they can get the media metadata working for our cars for it:
