Our ST has been parked at the dealer for 2 weeks due to exhaust smells in the car because of a cracked catalytic converter. They say the factory replacement cats are cracking as well. So the car continues to sit there. I am checking on the dealer with this post because I’m concerned it’s going to sit there for months. They did give us a loner car thank goodness. Has anyone else heard all this or had the problem resolved?

More than likely is because of the flex pipe vibrating violently upon start up.

The flex pipes need to be clamped down properly, other users have had a similar issue as well.

When I talk to the dealer, they say that the problem has NOT been resolved in the factory parts. So they won't replace it, but I see other folks that are having parts replaced. That's what I am trying to figure out. Does my dealer know what they are talking about or not?

What does that mean?!? They have and should be replacing the faulty part Your dealer's response doesn't make sense.

I also just started a new thread a few days ago indicating that I have the exhaust smell inside my ST. Wife and I are are really upset about this issue. Taking it in to dealer next week. I will take to multiple dealers if necessary, but trying the one with the best known Service Dept first.

There is a recall for this what yall are talking about smell in cabin due to exhaust from flex pipe !! & if you had cracks in your down pipe you could probably tell if the muffler sounds louder could indicate cracking in converter

Interesting. I had the smell once in the exploder but couldn't replicate it. Got a whiff of it after gunning it on the highway

Is the smell constant/more frequent for the ones with the bad flex pipe>

Picked up car from service this morning for a couple of recalls, oil change etc.... was advised by my rep that both catalytic converters are cracked. Never smelled anything unusual nor did the car get any louder. They are ordering the parts and stated that they will call when parts are in, give a loaner and need 3 days to repair.

Yea they sometimes put clamps on the flex pipe mine had 3-4 and i also modified my exhaust downpipes and full corsa exhaust after 3 clamps it stopped rattling evan with the new exhaust !! But good luck i just sold my ST and got a durango SRT ! ST are good and sick ride i just traded for what i originally wanted but good luck !! If you know anyone who needs new (original) catalytic converter let me know

Yea let them put new converters ! The originals suck though the way those parts are on there most of them are not made strenth wise to withstand the twin turbo ST power and torque! 1st and foremost yes get your new converters and also to avoid any other problems i would 1000% get a new whipple intercooler thats a must with those !! It is insanity the size intercooler they put stock in there too cool down a twin turbo engine lol ! Its the same size as my intercooler on my dirtbike but i would get a whipple i did for mine (well explorer st i just sold) and made hell of a difference

Yes, you will get the exhaust smell in the cabin every time you start the ST. Smelled worse than my 67' Camaro. The smell from flooring the gas pedal is different.
