e85 and 89 octane mix

Hello,

Well versed advice needed.
Looking for lower cost option to get 93 octane.
I have a 93 octane tune and recently I have tried a mix of e85 and 89 octane.
I used equal amounts of 10 gallons each, so far no issues to report.
Will this affect the car long term?
I am in Illinois and we have e85 all over and at savings of .85 to 1.00 per gallon.
By using this blend I am saving quite a bit of money, just want to make sure it's safe.

That’s not how it works. You need to pick an ethanol content you want and mix for that. You’re not turning 89 into 93. You’re turning 89 into E30 or whatever you decide. Your mix is closer to E50.
Get the E85 Mix app and figure your mix with that.

To expand upon what @UNBROKEN wrote, ethanol and gasoline have different timing and air/fuel ratios. While the ECU can compensate for some of this while you're just tooling down the road, with a tune should you go out and beat on it you're asking for trouble. It's not just an octane number.

Substantially different and you should have an E50 specific tune to run that blend. You can run as high as E30 on a 93 tune…you’re pushing your luck.

E50 makes about 96 octane depending on the 91 or 93 you're using. E50 tunes are rowdy compared to stock.

I was told it will add about 15 to 20 horse over the 93 octane tune.
Went with the E50 due to the fact that in Illinois E85 is plentiful and would cost less than straight 93.

Not sure who’s tune you’re using but it’s way more than 15-20hp. My car went from 12.0’s on 93 to 11.7’s on E50.

I'm also from the Midwest in MN, plenty of E85's around but the problem is finding quality E85. I've been all over FB joining ST groups in MN to find out which gas station carries the best E85 and so far there's only one that's always around 80% to 85% based on their testing.

Not sure how big of a difference it'll make? I guess the guys that have been running E50 can chime in.
