So in my case, I should do ZFG and be done with it!?
ZFG gives you the best bang for the money if you're out of the original 3/36 and even then, it can be debatable.

But its your SUV, your money.

The FP tune is deserving of way more attention than it's getting.

My previous comment should not be the last post on this thread about it, so I'm posting again.

We need more intelligent common sense feedback on this tune so people can make a rational informed decision on it.

Anyone?

Which dealer are you using out there? I am in Louisville, but shop exclusively Pinnacle Ford
So I talked to them today about scheduling it and they admitted they had no clue what mod I was talking about. Have to get back to me with another quote because the guy in parts has zero clue that FP tune I'm talking about. Argued with me that no such part exists

You spoke with the service manager at Pinnacle? I only work with their sales since I am in Louisville, but they're one of the best, most aggressively priced dealers I have found. When I bought my 2020 ST from them, it was 9k off MSRP, no negotiations or anything, that was just the price as it sat on the showroom floor. Granted August 2020 was a much different car market than today lol.

They let me buy my 22 F150 Lariat off the lot using x-plan though. This was at the beginning of Sept, arguably the peak of all of these car shenanigans

I’ll admit I wasn’t expecting too much. After the FP calibration was loaded I took it easy to for 3 or 4 days to give the ECM time to dial in OAR and transmission adaptive learning to occur. First WOT pull surprised me, it pulled harder than I expected, shifted crisper, and smoother throughout the rev range. See Dragy results, the FP calibration shaved 1/2 second off 0-60 and 1/4 mile, trap speeds up 3 mph. Both runs were with 93 and whipple intercooler. OAR on stock pulls was 100% and about 95% with the FP calibration.
I was bored, so I went to this site to play with the numbers you posted.

Assumptions of 5000lbs curb weight with Driver and DA is not definable

ET 13.44 = 407.1hp
ET 12.90 = 460.4hp

So seems like FP is underestimating the HP, but obviously this is a pretty generic way of calculating the HP. We all know the impact of DA and other factors.

From my experience, HP can overwrite a ford performance tune. I put a stage 2 power pack on my 17 mustang GT, and after I installed the long tube headers, I had to take to a local shop to get the CEL turned off. HP tuning software was the only one that could access the FP tune to modify for the header install.

Also, if you buy the FP tune, download the file from ford yourself and give a copy to the tech at the dealer on a thumb drive. DO NOT let them download the file. Several people in the mustang world let the dealer download the file and they got screwed by the tech. They either kept the file themselves, and in one instance I heard of the tech deleted the file from the dealer laptop after the install and now there is no way to go back to stock.

Glad I’m not the only one who thought of that possible situation. Would be very slimy of a dealer but I could see it happening.

Is there a way to check to see after the fact if it’s actually installed?

I have an older version of the pro cal device and on mine you need the pro-cal software installed on a laptop and then plug the device into the laptop and the vehicle and you could then see if the tune was actually installed.

Yes. You can see the FP tune on the ProCal tool, which should be kept with the vehicle.

However, if the ProCal software resides on the installer's computer (rather than your own) I don't know that you would be able to check for firmware updates, etc.

Oh okay thanks. As long as there is a way to officially check. I mean it’s sad that I even consider that being an issue but anyway.

Can’t you install the software after the fact? I mean what happens once that warranty is up. I’d want everything in my possession certainly by then. I mean I think everything should even from the beginning. I just need the dealer to hit “install” to get the warranty.

I suspect you can, but I haven't done it. When you connect the ProCal to your computer for the first time, it initiates the software download procedure from Ford using a unique voucher code. I would think the software would recognize both the device and the tunes stored on the ProCal. I suppose I could try this on another laptop and see what happens.

In order to download the ProCal software and activate the device, you (or someone) needs to create an account with Ford Performance Parts. It looks like having access to this account is really what you want/need. From there, you should be able to download software or updates, even to another computer if necessary.

If you don't have access to the FPP account, you probably have to contact FP for assistance. I assume it must be doable. If you buy a used car with an FP tune already installed, it seems unlikely that FP wouldn't allow you to download the software so you could use the ProCal tool. It's VIN specific and already registered.

Or maybe I'm giving Ford too much credit...

The FP Tune and Stock tune is backup to the FP Server. Just incase you break or lose the tuner.

Just got the tune install by the Ford Dealership. Cost was $90 but I pre loaded the tune file on the tuner.

Outside Temp is 50F
Intake Temp is 69 F (Nice)
ST (Normal Mode) is making 18 PSI Boost at 3/4 throttle. (Stock is about 14 to 16PSI).

Taking it easy. Waiting on the tranny to relearn.
