I feel like I've hijaked this thread and now it's getting off topic. UNBROKEN has a lot of knowledge with these particular vehicles and has answered a lot of good questions. Now I'm not sure which one to buy! You sound like a very knowlegable person and make some good points but so has Flyman and UNBROKEN! Maybe I'll buy them both and whichever is more useful I'll keep and sell the other one. Sometimes you have to pay for the right knowledge!
The manual that @TMac and @UNBROKEN suggested if free to use.

Maybe so but just about everything else will be different. I've been repairing cars for over fifty year fella, you don't buy a Mercuray Capri manual to work on a Ford Mustang! The engine might be the same basically but not exactly. If he gets a Lincoln aviator manual for a Ford Explorer, a lot of it will be different! Brakes come to mind! Seats come to mind! Broose, get yourself a manual that matches your vehicle! Take that from an old man who has forggotten more than these others will ever know!
I guess it depends on which year Capri…because other than flared fenders my 84 was identical to my 86 Mustang. Driveline…identical. Electrical..identical. Every part literally interchangeable.
When looking for very specific info on vehicles that share identical parts you can sometimes find more concise info from another vehicle. This may be one of those cases and the guy that suggested it wouldn’t have of it was a bad idea.

Sorry, meant to mention that. I have the premium ESP, and this was covered. $100 deductible though

So just an update, part didn't end up coming in until Wednesday (so they say) and I dropped the vehicle off this morning. They called me two hours later to say they mistakingly ordered the wrong part! WTF! However, they said the right part would be in by tomorrow! They are so full of shit! How does it take more than a week for the wrong part but only a day for the right part? I would have just fixed it myself but the service manual says you have to upload the data from the old module before taking it out and download it to the new one. I'm not sure if that can be done with Forscan or not so I just let them fix it.

Time to go to Ford with this. I got in my vehicle and as soon as I started it all the faults came up. I went back in and told the service manager. A couple hours later he called and said a shaft needed to be replaced and it was covered by Ford. He said the vehicle was drivable and he would have it dropped off. The next morning the vehicle was in my driveway. I went to get the key and the side panel of the drivers seat was just hanging off. I went to put it back on and all the tabs that hold it in place were broke off! Took pictures and sent them to him and said I was going to Ford. I also checked the DTC’s and the same code comes up for the Transfer Case Control Module, “Actuator Stuck”! How can these guys be so stupid! What a freakin nightmare! IMG_5537.jpg

The seat panel breaking is a pretty common issue. Do a search for it and you will find a number a people that have had it happen.

So just another update here; I took the vehicle in yesterday and they just called and told me they fixed the issues I told them about and also replaced a front driveshaft/axle that was under a recall. They didn't even call to tell me about it! He also said there is a problem with the rear differential and that's why it feels like it's in 4WD. :unsure: I don't know how the rear differential has anything to do with it feeling like it's in 4WD! My truck has a Ford Performance Trac-Loc rear differential with a CF clutch pack that makes it pretty much posi and it doesn't feel like it's in 4WD all the time. Only when I put it in 4WD and have to make a tight turn. This guy either has no idea what he is talking about or he is straight up lying to me! He also questioned me about "my tune" and said there have been 8 key cycles since the last time they had it! But that's a subject for another thread. :rolleyes:

So let me get this straight: they replaced the speed sensor, the AWD module, the front axle hub actuator for the newer front intermediate shaft (tsb), AND YOU STILL have the original problem you went in for?

No LOL! I just brought the vehicle home and it drove fine. No more feeling like it's in 4WD while turning, no faults, no transmission slipping and I just went out with my laptop and there are zero codes! So they did get everything taken care of. They just told me that there is an issue with the rear diff which is something new. He said that was why it felt like it was in 4WD but it doesn't even feel like that any more. Right now the vehicle drives fine. The parts for the rear differential won't be in for a couple weeks so I have some time to run it and make sure it's fine. Everything they did was covered under warranty and he said the differential will also be covered.

Did that, then came back and said they couldn't talk to the computer and something is still wrong. Called, and said it was the AWD module! They had it for about 2 weeks, and the ESP covered it.

First off, welcome to the forum! Two weeks to swap out the AWD module is a bit much. Once they had the right part, they did mine in one day. Glad to hear you got it fixed without a hassle though.

I have replaced the speed sensor, the AWD module, and cv axels. All faults are gone except 4 wheel dive system fault. They are saying I, basically, need a new front drive axle and new differentials. Per the TSB - 232174

They’ll be weeks that go by and I never see the pop-up about the four-wheel-drive system. Then sometimes when I’m driving, it’ll randomly say, four-wheel-drive system restored.
I thought it was just a glitch but when I looked to see what wheel is getting torque into it, I can tell that it’s not four-wheel-drive.
As soon as I turn the car off and turn it back, the glitch is gone and the car is back running like normal.
I don’t have a regular warranty but the car should still have the 50,000 mile powertrain warranty. Also, it’s tuned so I’m gonna keep that consideration. I’d rather spend a couple dollars at a local garage to bring it to Ford and Pay out-of-pocket and also have my Vin flagged.

Have you checked the AWD module under the drivers seat? Its grounded thru the case, may want to check mounting bolts and for a clean module the chassis connection.
