Hello,
New here just bought a 2020 Explorer ST and got
Borla cat-back exhaust, K&N intake filter. Looking to add S&B intake, charge pipes and intercooler, and downpipes my question is at what point is a tune needed. Could I install these parts and be good till later this year to do the tune or should I just wait and do it all at one time? Thanks in advance.

IMO none of those mods require a tune. No problem waiting until you are done. That way you don’t need to run a log every time you add something.

I did my tune with intake, exhaust, and intercooler. Then when I finally did the downpipes I ran a log and got an updated tune.

Sweet thank you,
Is it safe to say that a tune is deal if I were to do downpipes?

You don’t need a tune on any modification you do to the car it just won’t be worth it until you tune but it seems like you will. Downpipes won’t trigger any codes so tuning won’t be needed. Welcome to the forum!

Tuning a stock vehicle makes a world of difference. So I would personally tune it now and enjoy it and then just get an updated tune when you add everything.

Vegas guys rule!!!

I did all those mods you mentioned first and ran it without a tune for a while with no issues. The only problem you'll have is that after you tune it you'll regret not doing it sooner.

First off, welcome to the forum! The first mod should be the intercooler. The stock one is very small and I think installing an intercooler can be the most involved of all the mods you listed. When I first bought my ST I ordered my tune, intercooler, downpipes and exhaust all at once from ZFG Racing. I had a body shop install the intercooler because I knew they were used to pulling body parts off and putting them on. I was affraid my mechanic would not be as gentle as they were. But, you can get your mods first and the tune later. The vehicle will run just fine without the tune and those mods installed. However, as stated above, once you do get it tuned you will be disappointed you didn't do it sooner.

Sweet thanks for the info. I always thought down pipes would trigger codes

I think I’m leaning towards doing just that. I have ordered some stuff already and I just got it Thursday haha. Stock pile parts and then do it all on vacation then tune again with all the parts.

Thank you really appreciate the warm welcome. Looking forward to mod this toy.
