I have to disagree. 10K mile oil changes should be the norm nowadays. Studies have shown that synthetic oil does not wear out. I use Mobil 1 in the ST and my other car. I go 10k miles in the ST and 15k miles in my car, which has over 260k miles, with no issues...

Exactly, modern-day synthetic engine oils are of such a magnitude higher quality than oils of even a few years ago that "change" intervals are almost becoming irrelevant for many people, a number of whom disregard intervals entirely and merely add oil when the "low oil" light appears. Personally, I won't be joining that camp---ever.

In any event, however you define it, change it regularly with a high-quality synthetic at the interval of your choosing, and don't look back as the bottom line is that regardless of purported engine oil quality, the actual incidence of so-called catastrophic engine failure as a result of "too-few" oil changes (not to be confused with oil exhaustion) is virtually zero, and it has been for a very long time.

Never understood the argument. It’s your car, do whatever you feel like. I don’t agree with 3,000 miles and I have done oil analysis at 5k. Oil was still good for a while but why push it.

If changing it at 3k or 10k makes you feel better, go for it. It’s your vehicle.

The advice is so wild in this category that in the 80s, before synthetic, I knew a "lifelong mechanic" who proselytized the virtue of never changing your oil.
His claim is that emptying the oil got rid of thicker particulates that kept the seals healthy, so no flushing/changing should be done.

"Keep changing your filter everyone in a while, and just keep adding new oil"

No, it wasn't AmsOil or some other crazy stuff.
People are out of their minds.

Car manufacturers want you to replace your vehicle sooner - you can see it yourself with Ford doing the 3-bolt diff, they do not care about you.
Do the math. Oil every 10k miles means you only change the oil 3 times before your warranty is up. 10 times if you get one to 100k miles. Why would they do it if it costs them money? It doesn't - they charge $200 for a full-synth oil change.

Everyone will do what they want, of course.

My sister bought a used Saturn many moons ago. Asked me if it was ok that the engine was replaced at 24k miles. I called the dealership and asked why. They said the woman that bought it never did an oil change and the motor seized

Not good, but likely just ran low on oil because they never checked it either. I actually know of someone (girlfriend's landlord's brother) who just drove the vehicle until it died. The oil light was even on and just kept going. This was pre-depower features to protect the motor though.
