New motor, hallelujah. 2020 Explorer ST.

Just wanted to say after about 7 weeks I finally got my Explorer back today!! Thankfully the motor was covered under warranty. I’ve been tuned for about 20k miles so I was shocked they even covered it.

I was just driving home from dinner and I heard my engine clanking, I checked the dip stick and it was almost completely dry. No oil light.. nothing. I’ve read on here that a few other people have had the same problem.

anyways, just wanted to share. They gave me an XLT loaner.. happy to get out of that as well lol.

Here’s a pic I snagged as soon as I got home.

So the ultimate question...how did you get around them dinging you for the tune?

Awesome that you got it covered. What dealer was it and where?

To be fair, a tune should in no way affect the oil level.
A dry dipstick means you likely had the issue with the flawed pan seal.

Im glad they didnt try to B.S. you and you got it replaced.

Now, did they REPLACE it, or try to replace internals?
(They did that to a Fusion Energi of mine they killed)

I agree, I kept saying that to myself but I figured they’d try and get out of it any way that they could.

When I got the phone call my heart dropped.. he said, “well your motors blown… but the bad news is.. *awkward silence* we can’t get you a new motor for 2 weeks” I didn’t ask any questions and just said that’s fine lol.

and yes new long block

Told me only 2 weeks, but let's see

Oh Also.

My Ford Dealer is pretty cool. I have always service the car there, perfect maintenance records, AND they have even INSTALLED UPGRADES. Thermal Exhaust, Steeda lowering springs, Fenfab tow & vertical links. Everything but the intercooler that came with a HP Tune. I think they know it was defect & nothing I did to cause it.

I'm sorry to hear of the loss, but glad your dealer is good about it all.
Can I ask for posterity, the conditions of the failure? No oil? Instant? Warnings ahead of time?

There’s no such thing as an HP Tune. It is a programming device. ZFG uses it to program it so it has to be that.

I Had to return my loner 2 days ago because they sold it. They gave me a Bronco to drive, Heh. I'm very friendly with everyone at Shults Ford in Wexford Pa near Pittsburgh. So I went to see the guy who will be working on my ST. Sort of like a "pep talk". My Man ordered brand new turbos! I was stoked about that. I should have it by the end of the week or early next week. I told him it didn't matter. and "take your time." Tell ya what, If everything goes well, & that "Bad Boy" runs like it did before this mess. I might skip re-installing the tune I have.

Oh, my ST, which of course is black, was sitting next to a black '25 ST. Got to tell you, our ST's, especially the front end are much cooler. They boxed up the front to much and a grille that is way oversized.
I mean the '25 grille is at least 30 to 40% bigger. TO BIG. And I don't think much of the fog lights neither. Our lower profile front end is so much nicer. The inside was ok. They replaced the white stitching with red for the seats. The display screen is huge though. Long ways. and they put a shelf below the radio I think.

Oh I forgot to mention. The front end looks like a Genesis. That "big mouth" grille. Not a fan of those

I'm curious how long was it from the time you ran out of oil to your last oil change? I checked my oil the other day and it was almost bone dry and I was just shy of 5k miles since my last oil change. I'm due for an oil change in a week or two, so I'm going to double check it again and check every 1k miles to see if there's any oil consumption.

That's the thing, I didn't run out of oil. At least the car wasn't telling me. When it happen, the car was telling me I had 43% oil life. But something was definitely wrong. I changed my oil every 5k with synthetic, religiously. Serviced at the dealer too. Can happen to anyone I guess

I had a MK6 GTI that burned about 1qt every 1200 miles. It was considered normal by the dealer. So I always kept a bottle on hand just in case I didn't get to my 5k mile oil changes on time. Hopefully not the case with my ST. My wife's ST doesn't seem to lose any and she is at 17k miles. I purchased mine used last year with 16k, now at 32k.

To me if you are using a quart every 1,200 miles and the dealership tells you this is normal, I personally would find a different dealership.
There is nothing normal having to put a quart in every 1,200 miles.

Got My ST back today. It's a bad ass again! The engine is sitting pretty in the bay. And what I was excited about most was that I was given brand new turbos, That made me feel good going into this. When I went and got it at the dealership my man Andy gave me the keys and said I'll be right back. Took it out for a ride and I was blown away again like I was driving it before all this shit happened. It was perfect! No noises or tweaks or nothing.

I had a tune on the car before the mess, but now, I 'm really not in any hurry to write a tune right now. It's just as fast & responsive now as it was with the tune before.
