Wife got a new to her 2022 Explorer ST. Going to tune it. Ive had EcoBoost F150's and always used Derive tuners (SCT or Bully Dog). Seems like HP Tuners is now a more preferred interface module as companies like ZFG ONLY support tunes via HP. Which one? RTD+ or MPVI?

IIRC the RTD+ is their suggestion unless you are going to tweak your tune yourself

Well....I got the RTD+ from 5star with 3 of their tunes to start knowing its compatible with ZFG when I'm ready for his DMS.

I've run 5star in my 3.5EB F150's and had good luck so it was easy to start there, plus they are 90min from me.

Sorry but you chose the worst performing and shifting tuning company out there for the ST. There’s a reason nobody recommends them.

The RTD3 is what 99% of people need and should get. The only reason to get an mpvi3 was if you wanted to do your own tuning on something else. Tuning with the rtd can be done via the TDN phone app or a laptop depending on what you perfer. The DMS (drive mode specific) tune is also exclusive to hp tuners and a very popular option!

Yeah, well, the intent is to go ZFG. I bought the RTD from 5star and it came with 3 of their tunes. Gotta have the RTD to get the ZFG.

I've been dealing with 5Star for 10 years. They are very accomodating for what their tunes cost and they are 90 min from me.
They dialed my heavily modded F150 3.5EB and got me 585 at the wheels.

I know they arent favored for the ST, but it'll work til I get the ZFG DMS.

You could have gotten the same RTD from ZFG and not had poorly performing tunes. What they did on another platform doesn’t apply to their results with the ST. It’s a safe bet to say more people have left 5 Star than anyone else tuning this platform. Then their bullshit video trying to pass off a fucked up launch as a wheelie didn’t help them out either…they’re kind of the laughing stock.

Noted!.....I can tell your a ZFG fanboy.
5Star was running a solid holiday special.
The 5Star tunes did not cost me extra and it was a good deal for the device.
I will have a ZFG tune in the next few weeks.

Not a ZFG fanboy at all…I’m a 5 Star realist.

Got my 5 Star tunes on Monday. Without having anything else to compare to, I'm rather pleased with their 93Perf tune. Throttle sensitivity is overly touchy, but she hauls.
I can't say anything bad about it at all.

I came from the F150 world and ran 5 star tunes on all 3 of my trucks when I had them. When I switched to an ST I stayed with 5 star as I didn't know of ZFG at the time. I thought 5 star was a good tune, with an I/C and a 93 octane 5 star tune the best I got was a 12.59 1/4 mile time. When I switched to ZFG the best I ever ran was a 12.09 and a 3.75 0-60 also on a 93 tune and I/C on the same vehicle. With an E50 tune from ZFG you could be mid 11's in a 5K lb SUV, you'll never get there on a 5 star tune. Also ZFG has his own exclusive launch strategy that is built into all of his tunes and you can also get a transbrake if you want it.

BTW that was on my former 21 ST, not my current 23 which is also ZFG tuned. The tune on the 23 launches and pulls harder than the 21 did so my guess is his tunes are getting better as he gains more experience on this platform. I haven't tried a 1/4 mile run yet on the 23 as my favorite "mexican" road is not as deserted as it used to be.

I haven't heard about that, got a link to the video or keywords to search for it?

There’s only one tuner you can mention in the same sentence as ZFG/Adam and that’s GooseTuned/Winfield. They are simply the best available with ZFG currently leaning with more experience on the 3.0 EBTT and Goose catching up quickly. ZFG has indeed made some significant progress in the transmission with a VERY effective “driveline-loaded” launch strategy and a full-on trans-brake strategy for race car. Top dog stuff there IMO.

My fully stock (intercooler only) with ZFG E50 tune will rip 11.99@114 with zero prep. Just pull over, set up the launch mode and rip 11sec, then stop by Walmart for some bread. Easy-peasy.

If you want the best numbers stock, then clean out all the weight of seats and other support items for 3 young grandkids and maybe clean up the other crap, check the fuel level is less than 1/2, lower tire pressure just a bit and go mid 11s

Thanks FORZDA3!! It's been an eventful 6 months, fun though!

@00bullitt, the COBB Accessport is definitely another very very good option when it comes to devices. In fact, it's the best device.

If you ever have questions feel free to reach out to me, personally. I'd be happy to help.

Are you married to Cobb, or can you write via HPT? I have already acquired the RTD.

I only use the COBB Accessport, yes.
It’s much much more user friendly
