Hi All. New here and can't find an Explorer Limited forum, but, hopefully, the question still pertains. A little backstory: The backup camera on my 2012 Limited quit working. It went from sporadic last week to full out dead the other day. Searching for, and performing, all the possible remedies, I was left with either a bad camera (easily replaceable) or a bad camera module (really bad, expensive fix involving removal of the dashboard). So with positive thoughts I bought an OEM replacement camera ($121.00) from Ford and installed it. With crossed fingers, I started the car, placed it in reverse and it magically came back to life. All was good except for the fact I lost the vertical side lines and the green/yellow/red safety boxes. Further searching revealed in camera replacements, reconfiguration is necessary. I called the dealer who agreed it was and they could do it. HOWEVER, regardless of the time involved to plug into the car's computer and make the correction (usually less than 5 minutes) they would charge me for a full hour of labor....... in this case $229.00. Going back to the internet and doing a search for the process, I came across hundreds of hits for the Forscan software and how to install it and make the fixes myself. The software was free (with the option to buy a license) and required an ODB to USB cable ($59.00 Amazon). Being computer savvy, I decided this was the way to go. What really caught my interest was watching these YouTube videos of owners using this software to make all kinds of changes not otherwise available to the uninitiated. I got the cable; installed the software and since my learning curve is pretty flat with new software programs, I made the correction to the camera in about 20 minutes and it worked like a charm.
Now.......... I told you that story to tell you this one. As I'm watching these videos I'm seeing options available that I would love to incorporate in my Limited, such as the courtesy Lane Change can be switched from 3 blinks to 5 or the sound of the turn signal can be reduced or the side mirrors can be switched to the 'autofold' option when the car is turned off and on rather than by the button or the splash screen can be switched to images not already available. But as I'm going through all the options showing on the Forscan screen for my car, none of those are showing up. So I'm guessing what shows up on Forscan is predicated by the year/model of the Ford, as most of the videos I saw seemed to be from a Ford F-150 or later models of the Explorer. Is this true or am I missing something in my version (2.3.60) of Forscan? Thank you for any replies and assistance.
