Steering wheel leather peeling

Man I just went on a trip to Virginia from PA & back... Noticed when I got home the steering wheel leather at the top was starting to peel.. first real issue with my ST...

WTF is up with that... 7k miles.. don’t get me wrong it’s not bad at all but it’s not a nice smooth steering wheel anymore. Total bs. What’s it gonna look like at 20k miles... and no I don’t drive in that position often.. Anyone else have this issue?
Sad part is most of the time I’m using cruise control with lane assist

Idk if warranty will cover it yet since it’s just starting to peel.. so annoying for price of this vehicle

I’m having the same issue I’m at 20k miles. Ford just told me to kick rocks. They say nothing they can do.

And here I was irked because Ford didn't notch the under-leather padding to keep the seams flat.... this is way worse.

I’m at 12K and 6 months and the top of my steering wheel is peeling too. This truck is too expensive to have a steering wheel peeling this soon.

seems to me that would fall under bumper to bumper warranty.

Same issue. Ford replaced under warranty. Dealer just needed to send pictures in apparently.

I put a steering wheel cover on my 23 ST the first week I bought it new knowing that it could happen.
My traded in 23 Dodge Durango RT did the same thing and started peeling at 5,000 miles.
It seems anything new anymore is such poor quality.

I’d appreciate seeing some well focused close up photos of the steering wheel surface and under the peeled surface. I have some suspicions.

Total BS so many of you are having this issue. I've always added a steering wheel cover to my vehicles on day one but that's not anything anyone should have to do. Wondering if the factory steering wheel material is leather or some kind of pleather..

I have a bit of experience with steering wheel leather. That’s why I’m hoping to see some photos.

Also if you use an alcohol based hand sanitizer, that will eat the leather on the steering.

Most people having issues are self induced. As mentioned above alcohol based hand cleaners or other chemicals are usually the reason the issue starts.
This just isn’t a Ford issue and anyone getting a new wheel under warranty should probably consider themselves lucky because they could very easily say it’s an owner caused issue.

I will admit I had not thought of the hand cleaner playing a part of this, your right that would absolutely cause issues.
