Considering a 2021 ST with 34K - Should I avoid because of intake recall 24S55?

Hey Everyone,

I previously owned a 2016 Explorer Sport since new, it had 85K miles and was still in great shape (and paid off), unfortunately a drunk driver hit it hard at around 50mph in a residential area while it was parked on the street (ripped the rear drivers wheel clean off the vehicle). So I'm shopping for its replacement. I've considered new ST or ST Line but am very tempted by this low mileage 2021 ST - with the exception of the intake valve recall that makes me very nervous. When I asked a Ford service department, they just said there is no advice yet. I've read on here that there is an extended warranty - this one still has 19 months and 25K mileage on the powertrain warranty, but the dealer couldn't't confirm that. I'm just nervous about what happens after that runs out if the potentially bad valve bricks the engine. Any advice for me? This one doesn't seem to have any deletes from the factory - build date was 8/21 and it went into service in 9/21. Thanks in advanced - looking forward to the forum once I find the right one - hopefully this is it!

The intake valve recall stemmed from the Bronco’s couple failures. I’ve never seen the problem happen on an Explorer ST.

Welcome to the forum. I wouldn't let that stop me from buying it. It's only happened a few times and as said above it was the Bronco. There is a TSB on it so they should have been able to tell you that.

Thanks - that's comforting to know.

Thanks - I'll be checking in with a dealer on it today, and hopefully taking it home.
