Anyone else seen this

Yes, there is a recall for certain 2025 Ford Explorer ST models due to a potential powertrain control module (PCM) issue. The PCM could intermittently reset while driving, potentially causing loss of power, difficulties shifting into park, or even the transmission shifting into park unexpectedly. Car and Driver reports that this recall affects 24,655 2025 Explorers. Ford will be notifying owners via mail beginning in late May, according to CarBuzz.

Elaboration:
  • Recall Details:
The recall, according to Ford, involves 24,655 2025 Ford Explorers built between December 2023 and September 2024.

  • Issue:
The PCM software in these vehicles could be faulty, leading to the PCM resetting while driving.

  • Potential Consequences:
This reset could cause a variety of problems, including a loss of power, difficulty shifting into park, or the transmission unexpectedly shifting into park, potentially damaging the pawl.

  • Remedy:
Ford will update the PCM software in affected vehicles and inspect the transmission and parking pawl for any damage.

  • Notification:
Owners will be notified by mail starting in late May,.

  • Affected Models:
Specifically, the recall affects the 2025 Explorer ST and other 2025 Explorer models with the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine.

Just had this service done 5 minutes ago through the mobile service. Two updates were needed for me. He said the vehicle will need to learn how I drive all over again. The tech said you might feel different shift points than I'm used to but will fix itself over the next two weeks. The updates took about 40 minutes in my driveway through dealership mobile service.

I do note that this only applies to vehicles made "December 2023 and September 2024" and with the base 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine. I suspect that most ST owners in 2025 have the 3.0 engine.

I read about a recall Recall 25S35 on another Explorer forum this morning (https://fordauthority.com/2025/04/2025-ford-explorer-recalled-over-powertrain-control-module-issue/). I received a notice from Ford in the mail last week about Customer Satisfaction Program 25B02 advising me to make an appointment to update software on my 2025 ST for the PCM. Now there's a recall for the PCM on select vehicles beyond the CSP? I'm going in on 6 May for my software update and will have to ask the service department if they know about any recall but given that they didn't know about the CSP I'm not expecting to learn much.

Interesting recall.

I was test driving a 2025 ST about 2 weeks ago, and I recall the vehicle would randomly just shut off on it's own a couple times during the drive. Salesman insisted I was accidentally hitting the push-to-start button on the dash. Riiight.

I wonder if that is related.
