High Performance Package, Dealer installed?

I just recently purchased a loaded Explorer ST with the high performance package.

When researching online what the difference was between the street package and high performance package, I never found a solid answer... some sources said brake lining?? While others said brake pads. When I asked the dealer they had absolutely no clue. I even asked if they had anyone from FORD they could call and ask and they told me no.... That's South Florida for you.

However my main question for anyone who knows about these packages is if it comes pre-installed from the factory or if it is indeed the dealer that has to install what ever the special part is from the high performance package. The dealership told me specifically that they never have anything additional to install when receiving a vehicle from the factory unless it is a promo or special edition (like all the special mustang editions). They said that they had not installed anything additional on any of the explorer models. What concerns me is that the sticker specifically says under the "ST High-Performance Pack" line: '.Hi-perf brk pads*dlr inst acy'. Which to me sounds like the dealer should of received brake pads and installed them.

Does anyone have any insight on this?

I got the ST street pack which adds the 21' rims and beefed up red calipers all factory installed and delivered. Don't think the high performance package was offered in Canada so can't speak to that but I found another thread in these forums you might want to read up on for more insight....

I asked the salesman about the High Performance Pack today during our rather long conversation and he indicated he has never seen it in Canada either. Think it's safe to say we don't get it here. Also I remember in the hype leading up to the release of this car, they talked about it having an optional Street Pack and also a Track Pack; I'm assuming the Track Pack and the High Performance pack are the same thing.

My sales rep told us that in the U.S., the High Performance Package is simply the ST Street Pack with upgraded brake pads, and it’s a $600 up-charge.

For people who ordered the High Performance Package, they were shipping the vehicles with Performance brakes and then sending the high performance pads to the dealer for installation. I don’t know if that’s still the case, but I can check on Friday when I go back to pick up our vehicle from service.

I’ve attached a screen shot from the U.S. Ford website, in case you’d like to see it.

I'd be interested to know what the difference is between the brakes in the Street Pack and those in the High Performance pack. I've taken three test drives, all in Explorers equipped with the Street Pack, and the brakes were, shall we say, grippy. I can only imagine what anything further upgraded must be like.

I think I read somewhere that the upgrade included Michelin Latitude high performance tires. Also, the upgrade will not be available for several months.

Is this something that can be added after the sale? I may want to upgrade in the future.

I took delivery with request to NOT install the HP brake pads. Same with mud guards. I prefer to install myself.

Yes it can be done later, that is if you have the Street Pack since the calipers are bigger; they’re just different pads.

The extra just for different pads seems crazy to me anyway. I swapped out the pads myself on my Hellcat to powerstops and it was like $100 and an hour in my driveway.
