2022 Ford Explorer Adds the ST's 400-HP V-6 to More Trims

Looks like our ST's won't be the only Explorers to have the 400hp engine anymore. According to Ford, the Platinum and the King Ranch will gain
our tune for 2022. Not sure how I feel about this. Bad enough the do an ST Line than mimics the looks, but now they are making 2 other
trim levels with the same power. Kind of diminishes the exclusivity of the ST model.

Yeah kind of sucks. So a lower trim can have the looks and the engine of the ST now. Reminds me of the Dodge Scat Packs and the SRT. Scat pack is cheaper with the looks and the engine, but misses out on some small stuff.

Doesn’t bother me too much. I still love mine and don’t care about any other models. We personalize them anyway with after market stuff so mine won’t look like most anyway. It is odd though that Ford would do that.

I have no problem with the Platinum and King Ranch having the same tune. Those are high dollar trims and I never understood why they were detuned. I'd be pissed if I were buying a platinum--2020-21 owners are going to be for sure. The ST is perfect for performance and looks but some want one or the other. That's just smart marketing. I do not like the 4 banger with the ST looks but it's not are carbon copy in terms of looks so, again, I think that's fine.

What exclusivity? If Ford got a million orders for STs, they'd build them. I see at least 10 other STs per day by me. Nothing exclusive about an Explorer.

Just makes sense to not bother with multiple engine calibrations, saves money on emissions testing and such.

Spreading the engine out means more sales which means more numbers which means maybe more aftermarket support.

Plus with more Explorers having the 400hp tune there’s more chance Ford will get off their butts and make some more Ford Performance parts/tunes for our engines.

I am kinda bummed the 4 cylinder gets the red stitching! I would have preferred the red in our ST.

History always repeats itself! Mustang GT vs Mustang LX with 5.0 and all options including notch back. Fox body. The lower model with big motor was faster!

They’ll still be slower. Weight and rear axle ratio will make the difference.

JUST MAKE SURE YOU DONT GO THROUGH EBAY TO ORDER AFTERMARKET PARTS FROM OVERSEAS VENDER. FIFTY FIFTY CHANCE THAT PART WILL NOT FIT. THEN YOU WILL BE AT THE VENDER MERCY TRYING TO GET ALL YOUR MONEY REFUND. EBAY CAN NOT HELP YOU WITH TOTAL REFUND DUE TO OVERSEAS VENDER. IT ALSO TAKES A MONTH TO ARRIVE. IT COST MORE THAN THE ITEM TO SHIP IT BACK , AND IT COMES OUT OF YOUR POCKET. VENDER CLAIMS THEY WILL REFUND YOU WHEN IT ARRIVES BACK TO THE VENDER, HUMMMM OK. I LEARNED A VALUABLE LESSON.

The Platinum and King Ranch are "higher" trims.....
The ST Line does NOT have the 3.0T nor the digital tachometer......

Eh I mean would be nice to get more power stock but adding a tune to the Platinum/King Ranch will make it no different than a tuned ST. Im not too bothered by this, we do have lights in our glove box and center arm console lol As well as 2 bolts on our rear end case, cant have everything either.

I'll preface by saying I do not expect this to happen at all, BUT what I would like all of this to mean is that the ST will get an even hotter powertrain in the future. They're dropping the 5.2L Predator into the upcoming Raptor R to compete with the Ram TRX, why not drop it in the ST to compete with the Durango Hellcat/Jeep Trackhawk? Or, now that the GT350 is no more, throw the Voodoo 5.2L in there. A 525hp flat-plane crank screaming at 8250RPM would be pretty sweet in a sporty SUV. Maybe Ford finally develops a EcoBoost V8, can't help but think the ST would be a perfect home for such a motor. Again, all a pipe dream.

A RWD only is big news, I mistakenly thought it was a typo from last year, so more or less performance oriented with the 2wd?

If only the RWD ST would get the Timberline Torsen rear-diff- might even think about a trade-in for that. Lose 300+ lbs off the front. I don't have to worry about snow, but if I'm giving up AWD I definitely want the LSD. (I hope you're up on acronyms, this post isn't about drugs!)

Front transfer case, front driveshaft, front differential, twin halfshafts...just an estimate, but it would have to be near that number.
^That's what I was thinking, I mean ive seen some ST's having a lil traction issue, cant imagine how itll be for RWD ST's.
Once again, I'd only swap AWD if the Torsen was included and only if I weren't dealing with snow, etc. Remember, both front and rear diffs are open, so you're only getting two wheels driving at any one time no matter what.

I feel better now, I was wondering if RWD wouldve been The performance set up, Im getting a 21 little late in the year, like the new black dash however and the option to be rid of the horrible auto start/stop
