Hi all, first post.

I own a 2017 focus st and I love it. My wife wants a SUV and is eyeballing a 2020 Explorer ST. We have went to different dealers and test drove a couple. We absolutely love the vehicle but...

After conducting some research I've found there have been QC issues out of Chicago and after speaking with a Ford service manager (family friend) at a local Ford dealer he said there have been quite a few 2020 Explorers in the shop (I don't know if they were STs or not). He advised me to wait, however that was about 4-5 months ago.

For those of you who own an Explorer ST would you kindly give me your opinion(s) about your ST purchase? Any regrets or lack thereof? Also what should I look for when buying one to mitigate the possibility of acquiring a "troubled" ST?

Thanks,

Focaljet or FocusFanatics? lol j/k It looks like there are some issues with sensors on earlier builds. I recommend looking for a more newly built ExST.

ours was built Aug 18th 2019, and havn't had any major issues. definitely some gremlins but they are usually fixed by turning off the car and turning it back on.

given some time, ford will update the software and figure out the small things.

Most of the problems do seem to be with the earlier builds. Ours was built close to the end of 2019 and (knock wood) we haven't had any problems. And it is one fantastic truck.

Ok, how many miles have you put on the baby?

We're at 3000 something. Drove the wheels off it for a week or two and then the virus everything down. Haven't had to take it for service, except for an early oil change. I h,ave 2 or 3 minor things that I'll have them fix the first time it goes in. As STircrazy said, turn it off and back on and it's good to go.

sometimes the 3rd row seats dont recline on the first button push.
Sync3 lags like crazy on start up sometimes. and if you change the Satellite radio channel to early, it freezes.
the fake engine noise has gone out once before, but came back the next day.
the reverse assist (braking) sometimes faults.
Brake hold sometimes faults.
ive had it stall twice, once while coming to a stop to back up and reverse. the other coming to a red light, as soon as i stopped, it stalled.

Mine is a Nov 2019 built and it runs like a champ. Make sure you get all the bells and whistles thou and listen to your wife and just buy it already.

Driver‘s side heated seat not operational (parts ordered).
Slow drain on the battery (software update fixed it).
There have been a couple recalls on safety, but they were just an inspection (really).

All covered under warranty. Nothing really bad.

Really love the look, HP, handling, features, and (being a former 2017 Focus ST owner in the past) ..... all the little modifications available. I’m buying more in add-ons than car payments! But that’s the ST life.

My ST is a 3/20 build date. So far at 700 miles, not one hiccup. No rattles, squeaks, clunks or weird stuff has happened (knock on wood). However, the day I got it home, I did put it on my lift and looked for obvious stuff, loose connectors, bolt check, re-torqued lugnuts(150ft.lbs) loose clamps on turbo piping, plastic rivets, and interior bits. Everything pretty much checked out ok, the lugnuts did tighten a bit more after the 100 mile drive home, but I expected that. I'm glad I got recent build, as I've read some early build nightmares.
