Hey everyone, need some advice.

We purchased a Certified 2021 ST a week ago with 1800 miles and the dealership did not disclose that the engine had been replaced with a remanufactured engine because the original broke a piston rod and blew a hole in the block. They told me that the previous owner traded it in because it was too fast.

The replacement craftsmanship was not good which led me to find some issues with some skirting and the driver side half-shaft boot being busted. I brought it in for repairs and asked for the service work on it and they handed me a service ticket that the motor had been replaced with a remanufactured engine. I almost lost my mind!

We would like to have it replaced with a new Explorer ST but there is no availability.

Would you trust the remanufactured engine and keep the ST or fight them to replace it with a new SUV?

Hopefully meeting with the dealership this morning to work through this issue of fraud.

I'm in Houston as well, who was the nefarious dealer?

I would trust the motor itself, but the remove replace being done at the dealer would be a non-starter for me. Kinda like going to your general practitioner for a heart replacement. Sure they can probably do it, but how many have they really done.

I would formally report the dealer to Ford Corporate, they normally don't take kindly to that type of behaviour. After returning your funds the Dealer can keep it as a loaner or staff vehicle.

The dealer took it back and gave us a new ST.

So you purchased a misrepresented certified used vehicle and ended up with a brand new ST? And you didn’t have to pay the difference? I’d say that’s a stand-up dealer that did wrong and owned up to it, plus more.

So not exactly the same price, payed an extra $3k for the new 22 model.

Grabbed it coming off the delivery truck. Someone ordered it and backed out the deal. Just happened to be there dropping the faulty one off at the service center.

Bought a Focus with 10k miles, found out a few months later it was on it's 4th transmission, the first one blew with fewer than 60 miles on it.
Ford Corporate got involved & they bought it back.
The reason I found out about the trans was the fuel gauge stopped working & the dealer replaced the entire fuel system from the filler cap to the injectors (parts cannon anyone?) While it was there I asked the gal in the service dept to run the VIN...
