Interesting, when I ordered on 2/28, we had to include 401A ($9495) and the Premium Technology Package ($1295) to get the larger 10" screen, upgraded B&O, and multi-contour seats. We really only wanted the larger display screen but had to add the technology package to our order to get it. Now, it seems to be folded into the 401A and they dropped the MCS. I wonder how this affects our build order? I don't think our build has been scheduled yet.

I had read somewhere (maybe on this forum or somewhere else on the web) that this was possibly imminent and that is why I opted to cancel my order (along with not knowing when it was going to be built after 2 months of waiting already without any info) and purchasing a dealer stock vehicle. Luckily for me it was everything I was looking for including the color but I did have to accept that it was the 2nd row captains instead of the bench that I really wanted. In then end I am happy that I was able to get a vehicle with all the options that they are now starting to remove in order to prevent further production delays. Given the limited stock and the fact that you are custom ordering, Ford should find a way to make these items as individual options as opposed to making them part of a package. Then they might be able to keep production running while also still providing the options that people want.

Thank you for that link...from the article:

Instead of the Multicontour seat, these impacted models will come equipped with a 10-way power driver’s seat and 8-way power passenger seat, which are identical in appearance to the Multicontour seat but do not have the Multicontour seat function. Additionally, ST 401A models equipped with the 65J package will receive a $300 credit, reducing the package price from $1,295 to $995. King Ranch and Platinum models will also receive a $300 discount, while both price reductions will be reflected on each impacted vehicle’s window sticker.

Note that the BOF states:

"• Currently, we do not foresee an impact to retail customer orders."

Meaning the delete is for fleet and stock orders. At least, that is how I read it.

By the time they' re done reducing options you'll get a milk crate with pillow for a seat.

And probably remove the last bolt on the rear diff and hold it up with a bungee cord.

I have an order in, placed late December '21, still no production info whatsoever. Can anyone clarify, can I expect it will still ship with MCS? And if not, will it be able to be retrofit as with rear-climate? I see OP's reference to "...we do not foresee an impact to retail customer orders." which is a hopeful take on it, but on Ford Authority it reads as follows:

Beginning today, all 2022 Explorer models equipped with multicontour seats – ST 401A series equipped with the Premium Technology Package (option code 65P, which also includes the 10.1-inch touchcreen and 14-speaker B&O Premium audio system), King Ranch, and Platinum trims – will be produced at the Ford Chicago Assembly Plant without that particular feature in an effort to speed up customer deliveries. Models equipped with 65P will instead be specced with the Premium Technology Package (Less Multicontour Seats), or option code 65J.

Really disappointing news. We've ordered both an ST and a Lincoln Corsair dating back 6 months, no production info on either of them, now repeated bad news on the ST with features being omitted. These little creature comforts are a big part what separates lower from higher trims.

I think you pretty much have to get an Aviator if you want the equivalent of a fully loaded MY2020 ST. Seems like they have kept all the options that were slashed on the Explorers.

I have a 2022 ST. The only think I know it does not have that the 20/21 does is the light up cup holders and the storage console between the middle captain chairs. Am I missing anything else?

Just off the top of my head:

Front strut insulator
Rear diffuser
Front recovery hook and threading
Camera sprays
Heated windshield wiper park
Front LED temperature setting display
And the biggest one... 4 bolt rear differential mount subframe
Power 2nd row seat for 3rd row access? (I'm not 100%)
Firewall insulation

I wish I had pictures of all this stuff so I could visually see the changes.

my 2022 has power third row, but not power second row. Did the 2020 and 2021 have power second row seats?
Also, what is the front LED temperature setting display?

OK, I was probably mistaken about the 3rd row power fold. The 2nd row on mine are powered for 3rd row access. That is, press the button and the seat back will fold forward and the whole seat will move forward.

And right above the buttons to adjust the temp up and down, there is an LED display for the termperature for driver and passenger.

Interestingly enough, it’s easier for my 9 year old to get to the third row and his preference to just climb in like he’s going to sit in the second row, but he just walks down the isle to the third row. I put the second row seats down for him and slid them forward, and it creates an odd triangle space he has to squeeze through, which was more difficult.

That being said, I would still have preferred power second row

I have two LATCH'd booster seats right now so the center isle is the only way to access the 3rd row. Powered access doesn't mean anything to me right now... but hopefully some day!

Haha I only have one latched car seat, so technically a power seat would still be usable on one side.
