Adding Side Rails

I originally ordered my 2022 ST without side rails because we used them once in 7 years on our old explorer and frankly, I think the truck looks better without them. I may need to haul stuff on the roof more often, and my local dealership is fixing a sunroof issue I have, so I asked them if they could add side rails seeing they already pulled the headliner down. The service guys stated side rails could not be added after the fact on the '22 ST because they would have to drill holes in the roof. I thought there was a plastic piece the unscrewed, and then you screwed in the rail from underneath.

Has anyone else done this? if so, was drilling required? I want to double check what the dealership is telling me.

Pretty sure your service advisor is dead wrong. I've seen posts where people have met and swapped roof rails for the none rail parts. No drilling was done.

You’re dealer is stupid and wrong. They bolt straight on where the delete panels do. The only difference under the rails is the retainer for the front is shorter. They can even use the same nuts when they take the delete panels off.

As stated, it can be done with no drilling. Swapped rails onto our ‘21 with no issues.

Wish I knew somebody local that wanted to swap. The more I see them, the more I like them without rails.
