Just wondering if any1 with a 2022+ has an aFe intake on. So starting with the 22’s we don’t have the BOVs. Isn’t there something about needing to cap off a connection? I saw Whoosh were selling them and an option was with or w/o a cap. I bought one back before Whoosh announced they had 50 of them in stock. So mines still on backorder. I’m wondering if maybe I should cancel my order and just buy one through them. Then I wouldn’t have to worry about finding a cap.

Mine needed the cap and it came with one and I bought it last month. I would cancel and order from Whoosh. Have had nothing but good service out of them.

Cool. Gonna contact aFe first and see if it’s close to being shipped. With my luck I’d try to cancel the order and it’d show up the next day . If they say it’s still gonna be awhile then I’ll cancel it and just buy it through Whoosh. Any1 got a pic of what the cap looks like? Or if it’s something I can pick up from an Autozone, Advanced Auto Parts, Home Depot, etc…? As a back up plan.

I wish I could do it today but it will most likely be this weekend @ the soonest . I’m waiting to hear back from aFe and then I would have to get my refund back first. I appreciate it though.

In regards to the intake filter. Which is better, oil or dry?

If you’re in a crazy dusty area I’d go dry…but if it’s a pavement princess oiled is just fine.

A lot of problems with oiled filters in the past was because those vehicles were also running MAF equipment. It was not uncommon for someone to "over-oil" the element which would end up on the MAF hotwire and eventually cause problems. While most of those type of hotwire systems are engineered to have a burn-off to clear deposits, over time there are consequences since you can't possibly burn off all the carbon.

Now the ST has a speed density system, which is less touchy, but ask yourself if you really want to introduce more oil into the intake? A better question would be how much better IS filtering with an oiled element? Does the oiled filter actually have a lower pressure drop? The actual answer is you don't know....and neither do I. So I would stay with the dry filter. IMHO.

I always questioned this logic, simply because your motor by default allows oil to enter the intake system via the PCV system. Yes, not all sensors are impacted by this, but there are several that are.

Although we don’t have the “hard data”, there is very little chance of real impact. Only example I have is my 3.5 eco in my truck. I flow 56.5#/min at 21 psi. I have three different intakes for the truck. OEM, AFE and Full Race. OEM I use the AEM drop in(dry), AFE with oiled Pro-Guard 7’s and the Full Race with their dry filters. The OEM hinders airflow by a consistent 1.8#/min, but there is no difference between the FR or AFE intakes.

I have a 22 and just had the intake installed a couple weeks ago. No mention from the techs about needing a cap. Where would this cap be placed if needed so that I can double check. Thanks.

Driver side...follow the pipe from the driver side air filter, it's at the very bottom where the tube bends towards the driver side turbo. Hole will be on passenger side of that pipe, as the models with the blowoff valve have the valve directly below where the intake housing sits. That's where the hose that the 22's don't have would have ran to.

Damn, I hope not.
I ordered the kit, my shop put it in but no one said anything about an open hole. I have driven at least 500 miles since. I will have to look tomorrow. My shop is a high end shop and I doubt they would have missed this bit let me check. If I remember correctly there was a bump out in the pipe but it was molded closed. Thanks for the input.

They may have just thrown a cap on it for you. I used a dollar chair cap and clamp on mine. It's pretty obvious what the opening is, so I'd bet money you are absolutely fine, they'd have to be incompetent to miss that.
