I was having a slipping issue primarily and the hard downshifting.

It’s interesting that so many people are having transmission issues. I wonder, did your dealer facilitate the rental or is that something you went to Ford directly for? I was told to pound sand (more or less) when I asked about a loaner or rental from Ford corporate.

Also, do you think the accident your vehicle was in may have caused them to deny your buyback claim? If so, I’d argue that you might want to lawyer up since it sounds like that was essentially caused by the failure of the vehicle.

So many people???? You need to remember that people with no issues rarely will post about no issues. You always get the vocal ones that have had issues. I'm not convinced the 10R60 is any more or less reliable than anything else with out more data. There are thousands of them on the road trouble free however, mine included.

While I appreciate your input on this, I think you’ve just had a good experience while there are many people who have not. I know multiple people outside of this forum who have had issues with Ford transmissions lately (not just the 10R60) that have been similar. My dealership even mentioned the number of explorers they’ve been dealing with lately when I brought it in the first time.

I’m having a bad experience with my transmission, and I would say that there are a lot of people on this forum (which is still more than likely a small, yet representative portion of the population that own this vehicle) that are also having bad experiences. I am, personally, a little irritated that I bought a new vehicle that has a serious issue early in its life when it has been treated incredibly well. Especially at this price point.

No doubt the reliability of other Explorers doesn’t really matter when you are the one experiencing premature failure.

Another update:

Called Ford customer service again today regarding my issues and they are going to reimburse me for a rental vehicle. Essentially I’ll send them the final receipt at the end of my rental and they will send me a prepaid debit card for the amount. Not ideal, but better than nothing.

Just a note: keep in mind that this is dependent on your dealers policies. They are not required to give you a loaner or rent you a car, so your experiences may vary.

I think what really facilitated the rental is that initially the dealership could not tell me exactly what was wrong with my car and spent a few weeks trying to figure it out. Initially the rental was given to me by the dealership and then ultimately paid for by Ford. I think the denial for the buyback claim was really just timing. At the time my buyback claim was going through Ford they had just replaced the bad wiring harness and were working on replacing the transmission valve body. As it turns out, the first replacement of the valve body was done incorrectly by another Ford dealership who I went to because they claimed to have one of the few transmission specialists in my area! Go figure.

I plan to update my original post later this weekend as I pick up my car today finally!
