Tire inflator for emergencies.

It's an old one from another vehicle. Even though it's loud, works really good, so I didn't invest in the latest and greatest.

Deciding on a front fog lamp tint.
Smoked >= Yellow > Amber > White for me.
IMG_20230417_194057.jpg
No such confusion for the rear.
Smoked any day over chrome.

I might need an LED update after tint, for the reverse lights.

It's finally here after traveling 2500 miles.
They have made the box interesting this time.

Kuat Transfer V2 bike rack is here.
IMG_20230421_185441.jpg
The package was in really bad shape.
(Amazon order with UPS shipping. FedEx did a great job few days back, with my TuxMat direct order)

All the parts seems to be there.

I might return if anything is wrong, after assembly.

So far, everything looks good.
18, 20 and 29 inch bikes fits nicely.
Feels solid, but it's too early to comment on anything else.

I might convert this back to a two bike rack, for handling convenience. (Rack is heavy at 51lb and difficult to reach the tilting pedal, in the three bike configuration.)

Don't invest in the transfer locking cable accessory from Kuat. I bought it, as I needed a hitch lock and I got it used at 20$. Not worth at the original listed price, as it was designed for an older model.

And yes, the rear brake assist works on my ST. And constant beeping will remind you to turn off the parking sensors everytime you put into R.

Magnetic Car Phone Holder - Took almost 30 mins to find an ideal position that works for me. Working great so far.
View attachment 16911
Since I have not glued the magnet on my phone (it just stays between the phone and case), have have lot of freedom with mounting options.
This one came out two times (luckily while parked and no phone was attached). Both times car was parked in direct sunlight. And both times it went back in the same place and feels as solid as the first time.

Looks like I need a more dependable solution. Really liked that position and don't want to drill a hole for this, on a new car.

Glove box DIY clip.
Found one plastic clip (inside picture) lying around my house. Trial fitted and it worked.
View attachment 16907 Saved me some money and a 3D printing machine :p
May need to screw it down later, if it becomes loose.
Went for a bit more discrete and elegant solution, than a big clip this time. IMG_20230425_235545.jpg
Those Velcro attachments came with the floormat.

Those are nice. How are you liking them after having them in for a week?
In short, they are great. Truth be told, I have installed them and then forgot about it, in the ST. But I have used them over two years in my last vehicle.

+ Almost 100% factory carpet is covered, in all three rows. (this is very important to me, as my younger children will put things into, hard to reach and hard to clean, places)
+ They are very very durable
+ I like the color and pattern, that goes with the rest of the black interior
+ No matter how dirty they are, very easy to get them back to new look, after a 10 mins cleaning.
+ Dust, dirt, mud, snow, beach sand, goldfish, No problem.
+ This smoothens factory floor imperfections. For ST, there are some uneven hard surfaces in passenger foot area, they are less noticeable now.

- material is kind of 10% rubberized feeling and 90% plastic feeling, to step on. So you will lose the soft, cloth carpet feeling on your feet.
- Not easy to take it out very often, as I have used the clips and Velcro strips that came with it, to fit them perfectly.
- because of the groves in the design, vacuuming and wiping it down will need multiple passes.

The last two negatives are not applicable, if you are not an OCD guy like me. If you just put them in 5 mins (and not fix them perfectly, with all the clips like me) you can also take them out in 5 mins, and hose it clean. Just make sure to dry them fully before putting it back, as moisture can get trapped under it forever, as the material is not breathable.

DMV + USPS(?) went with my money and custom license plate
Money paid in 8th Dec 2022, and after multiple trip to DMV, they are telling, they shipped it on 7th April 2023.
Now, no one knows where it is.
I was really looking forward to have a black plate in front of my ST.

The prefect way to ruin your day is a visit to DMV, every single time for me.
Anyone knows a way out, let me know.

Gearing up for the FORScan changes.
Went with VGate vLinker for its lower price compared to the OBDLink adaptor.
It was cheaper on direct website, but went with Amazon for the easy return option (if anything goes wrong with the order).

Since the information I could find for FORscan changes are scatted all over the web, I have decided to make my own checklist for the changes.
I will document them in this build thread, for keeping a log for myself. Also might help someone specifically looking for Explorer ST changes.

With all the right setup (above post), the connection with the vehicle and the adaptor performance was really good.
First time loading the modules took few seconds, but a lot of them were there.
You get to select a profile name for when you connect the first time and it will ask for which profile to load every time you connect to the vehicle.

Below is the extract from FORScan

  • Adapter: vLinker FS v2.2.92 MIC3322 V2.0.92 (ELM327 v2.2)

As Built Module Backup: Most important thing to do, before you start playing with any module.
Its very easy to mess up the settings and then the factory As Built backups becomes a lifesaver.

Backup process
Restore process

After backup, windows had the following .abt files stored.
Took around 20 mins to finish all the As-Built modules available.
