Been planning for months and today was the day to hit the road. I went from Houston up to Conway, TX just east of Amarillo to start the fun stuff at the Bug Ranch off Route 66…and I’ve been on 66 since then. Went through Amarillo, detoured over to the Cadillac Ranch to see the cars. It’s weird…spray paint is so think it’s falling off the cars in foot thick sections…and people paint EVERYTHING. The cars, the fence, the road, the dirt…everything! I’m stopped for the night in a little town staying in a 60’s era hotel on 66. I’ll update with pics every evening but here’s the rest of the plan: Route 66 through New Mexico, Arizona and part of CA. When I hit Cajon Junction I’ll peel up to Angeles Crest Hwy because that’s the most awesome 66 miles anywhere. After that I’ll drop into Pasadena to pick up 66 again out to Santa Monica. I’ll spend some time seeing friends in LA then play in the Malibu canyons on Saturday then Sunday I’ll run PCH up to the newest landslide then detour around to Monterey and drop down into Big Sur…u-turn and end the day in Sunnyvale, CA. I have some stuff to do there but Friday the wife flies in and we’ll head for Fish Camp, CA so we can hit Yosemite first thing Sat morning. We’ll leave there on the east side and stay in Mammoth then cruise down the mountains and through Death Valley on Sunday to Vegas. We have tickets to the Sphere that night then it’ll just be heading home through Phoenix and El Paso. Should be gone 15-16 days. Todays pics. That's a big trip.. happy cruising..
We did a almost all of it, but in like 20 different mini trips.. recently did Kingman to peach springs (radiator springs) to cherish 'cars' movie route.
Was there after sunset so not many good pictures.. but 'The Roadkill Cafe' was a great stop for dinner.

I don’t have much of a schedule…long as I’m in LA by Saturday I’m good. Should be a nice, slow ride.

Nice on the sphere tix. Let us know how you enjoy the experience.
We built it for the first time in St. Louis at our domed stadium during Covid under heavy secrecy.
The wife and I are trying to get out there before the end of the year to attend.
Safe travels and good times to you sir.

Road trip day 2….started out in Vega, TX with an amazing morning and sunrise…then settled into the drive across NM and into AZ where there’s really no Route 66 tourist traps to speak of. I made it across with only about 80 miles spent on I-40…the rest was 2 lane roads…mostly old 66.
Route 66 through the rest of AZ is really nice starting in Winslow so hopefully better pics tomorrow. IMG_1702.jpeg IMG_1697.jpeg IMG_1707.jpeg IMG_1709.jpeg IMG_1712.jpeg

And a side trip to Walter Whites house when I passed through ABQ IMG_1705.jpeg IMG_1706.jpeg

Called it. The power of black hood vents compel you. You must have stopped off at Black Mirror Ranch at some point. The legend of Black Mirror Ranch states, "no matter what color your vehicles exterior mirror caps are on your arrival at Black Mirror Ranch, your exterior mirror caps shall be turned to black by the time you leave Black Mirror Ranch". True story !!
