Peace ✌ everyone, happy I found you guys on a day like this. Going to check out a few 2020 ST's and I am extremely excited . Got a gang of kids and feel like they gave us something for the fun soccer dads out here. Hoping I could get a bit of advice on something's to look out for (going to ford dealers) and maybe some common issues, maybe I can try and do a bit of preventive maintenance along the way. I do plan to keep it for a while and add some power. Wife has a 19 limited and i'm coming from a dodge mini van. Thank you guys for having me

Welcome to the forum and happy hunting for your ST.

I haven't had any issues. Keeping up with the normal maintenance stuff and changing the oil every 5k.

With a 2020 most of the kinks should have been worked out by now. Test drive it for a good amount of miles, not just around the block and listen to it over smooth and bumpy roads. Keep it overnight and listen to how it sounds on a cold morning. If there is anything odd going on, get it right before you sign. Taking it back to the dealer for issues after you buy it is not worth the hassle. Remember the salesperson doesn't work on the vehicle and will tell you anything about getting something fixed after the sale, but in reality it will be an all day visit to the service department at the minimum.

DaveG gave good advice. I've had my 2020 since May 2020. Many of us have dealt with the gremlins over time and for the most part Ford took care of them. Since you are buying from a Ford dealer get the service report. Post the repair items done on the one your looking to buy. We'll weigh in if it looks like some of the common things are missing. How many miles, build date, and are you getting an extended warranty as part of the deal?

Found 4 of them, 19k-25k miles, not sure of the build dates. How would i get that info? And not sure about the extended warranty, would you suggest trying to add it to the deal or add it in general

Look for a label on the lower right driver's side door jamb. The later the better. Units built in 2019 had more issues than later ones. The mileage seems low for a 2020, many of us using these as a daily driver have 60k on them or more. Check for catalytic conv replacement both sides. If they haven't cracked thy will. Hard to tell sometimes. Wheel axle speed sensor will throw a bunch of codes, transmission programming had early problems with shifting as well. The mileage causes me to worry if the vehicle was a buy back. A lot of that happened early on. Not sure the dealership is required to tell you that. Use the search function to research. Key words like "buy back", "transmission shifting", "cat. Converter" etc. also check the spare tire, check to see if there is evidence of water accumulation in the well. This is documented in this forum. Finally, if you decide to buy have them throw in a 100k bumper to bumper warranty. Will give you some piece of mind.

2023 Ford Explorer
#9
Hello,
I am now on my third Explorer. My 2013 XLT ran fantastic up to the day I sold it for a 2020. The 2020 had some electrical issues for running the wipers, radio and the cruse control but Ford fixed it for nothing but then every once in a while the radio would go blue for a week or more. My 2023 that I have now I love! I lowered it, tinted the window, blacked out everything that was not black and now want to remove the roof rack rails but cant find the part numbers. Anyone know them??
