Firearm placement for driver

Not sure that will work if you are right-handed. Even being a left-hander, having a holster on your hip with a seatbelt on seems counter-productive to draw time.
OP - I would look into a magnet (there are companies that make them and they usually require drilling into the vehicle panels).
For storage, you can buy a Vaultek safe and stow it under your seat or in the glove box.

I’m right handed and carry in a TT Gunleather OWB at 3:30…and have for 25+ years. I have no issues drawing from a seated position even with a seatbelt on….you practice at things that you may need to do some day. Training is vital.
Those magnets are ridiculously stupid and a recipe for a hole in your foot…and there’s countless instances of negligent discharges using those pieces of trash.

And that’s the issue right there…everyone wants instant results with no training. Those are the people that carry that I’d rather not have around me if things ever go south.
I’d bet money a well trained person could draw and be on target from a holster in a seated position before a beginner could swipe a handgun off a knee level magnet and get on target. Hell…there was a guy bragging about using one of those in a FB group this week that said he wasn’t worried about a negligent discharge because he doesn’t keep a round chambered. At some point just leave it at home…because you’re not ready. lol

You can always try Vaultek's Slider and mount it to the passenger seat. I usually just leave it on though.
Last year going to the NRA show in Indy, we stopped at a populated Cracker Barrel and 5 minutes before we left, some car pulled up and broke the window of my buddy's truck and stole all our stuff. They probably thought they hit gold when they saw my small gun travel safe, only for it to be empty because it was on me lol... Sucked losing some stuff that was priceless to me.

I installed a Desert Does It multi mount panel.

I added the clock-able right angle adaptor with Blackhawk RH OWB next to the console. Solid mount, out of the way and not pointing at my foot. I'll upload photos tomorrow.

I really only use it on long drives 2hrs + other than that it stays at my 12 o clock.
