The Thermal R&D exhaust options come in both 2.5" and 3" configurations - where the 3" is the louder of the two. The 2.5" is recommended for an otherwise stock Explorer ST and the 3" is recommended when you prepare to modify the Explorer ST (tune, downpipes, etc).
