Upgrading the sound by adding a Sub and Amp

Yes, still using factory everything. All I effectively did was add the amp on, and used the sub wires you see in the pictures as the line-level input to the amp. It has been working great.

Ah, well now that is interesting. Thanks for letting me know :)

FS OEM ExplorerST exhaust, 2020, includes mid pipes - $300

Hello, I have an OEM exhaust of a 2020 Explorer ST for sale. Has about 25K miles on it, really good shape. Local pickup only; you'll need a trailer or a big ol' truck! The mid pipes have been separated off; the length of the remaining exhaust, from where the mid pipes attach to the ends of...

    Hate my 3" thermal exhaust

Oh, a follow up to the whole the "the stock flows fine" discussion, and that it's already high flowing, mandrel bent, etc. It has a flapper valve in it. I was getting my old OEM ready today to try to sell it (anyone want to buy an OEM exhaust in great condition?) when I noticed a little knob...

Is everyone ok with the giant tablet and terrible bezel?

I'm not a fan of the touch screen controls for the air con. Makes it impossible to change anything without taking your eyes off the road. I much prefer certain controls (such as volume, air con) to have a physical knob/button that can be located by feeling for it. Something I think the ST got...

Understandable :) Personally, I think the Thermal sounds really good.

Oh, interesting, good to know! I guess those Fenfabs are looking even better! Also, just FYI, there's a recall on the cat/downpipes for cracking :(

Is everyone ok with the giant tablet and terrible bezel?

Personally, I like it, I just hate the Sync 3 implementation on it. It doesn't use the real estate as nearly as well as it could. I would even be okay with Sync 3 itself (touch control speed/responsive, etc.), if it only used the area better. It's really meant for landscape-oriented displays...

Love the new 2.5" Thermal R&D catback <3

It sounds great. Nice aggressive cold start, quiets down when warmed up. Barely noticeable at light throttle, no drone, and audible when accelerating. Not even remotely obnoxious. I do believe Ford should have done something like this for the performance-oriented ST from the factory.

Thermal mid pipes to stock exhaust

Yeeaah, that rattle though. Drove me absolutely nuts. I even had the dealer to the thing where one puts a big 'ol worm clamp around each of the flex joints to try to get the rattling to stop (this "fix" was suggested in an actual Ford tech bulletin :cautious: link ). It didn't work. So...

    Hate my 3" thermal exhaust

Agreed with TMac. Cats - at least modern ones - aren't that restrictive. Older model ones may not have been either but I honestly don't know. As a cat ages, it has a chance to become contaminated and/or clogged. If this happens you will most likely notice it, as performance will be done...

    Hate my 3" thermal exhaust

Good to know about the mufflers! The OEM system may be mandrel, it wasn't such a great job then. Some spots are good, like right past the resonator and the mid pipes leading up to it. On my OEM exhaust, particularly as it heads towards the mufflers, it looks like the shoe they uses may not...

    Hate my 3" thermal exhaust

Mmm perhaps. I could be misreading it. It can be hard sometimes through written medium. If so, then Dale I apologize.

    Hate my 3" thermal exhaust

The stock exhaust is 2.25", and most likely smaller in places as it is crush-bent and not mandrel-bent. I now have a dual 2.5" with mandrel-bends, high flow resonators/mufflers, that matches my downpipes. What do you mean no gain? And when I get around to putting a tune on it, golden. I get...

    Hate my 3" thermal exhaust

Two reasons. I haven't replaced the stock downpipes, and I probably never will. So I would never see the benefit of a 3" exhaust (other than it acting like a 2.5" to match the downpipes). And, more importantly, the 2.5" was on sale for $1000. The 3" was $1900. I'm not made out of money my...

    Thank you, I appreciate that.

    Hate my 3" thermal exhaust

Just for giggles, I hooked up my ODB2 scanner to see live data - to see if the boost drops between shifts. I did a couple pulls on my way to an errand. And…It in fact did…it dropped 0.1 psig between shifts. Not significant. Lost in the noise. Even if it dropped 1 psi...meh. A teeny blip and...

    Hate my 3" thermal exhaust

See, here's where I think you have gone astray. You said this: Why should the turbo RPM drop so much? It's spinning in excess of 140,000 RPM's, with all the mass of the compressor, turbine, and shaft also spinning. In the sub millisecond it takes for our auto trans to shift, the RPM's are...

    Hate my 3" thermal exhaust

Taken from your link: Then why do all those turbo drag cars have such short, fat pipes exiting out the hood/front fender? According to what you said above (and in the previous portion in the post you linked), they are leaving inertial energy on the table, thus not making their car as fast as...

    Hate my 3" thermal exhaust

All I said was you didn't specify. And I didn't blame you - I even literally said that what I posted was inappropriate, and that it's on me. Are we even reading the same words? Look, seriously, I'm at a loss here. You have made up your mind about me, and that's okay. Let's move on.
