DIY 170° thermostat, by OE supplier Stant. A $20 project.

Well, this ‘improvised’ design has been used in the Coyote engine for years. Same idea: replacing the RT1225 (and o-ring) with this and the new gasket instead. You don’t use the o-ring on top of the gasket! No reason it shouldn’t work here. The alternative is to buy the machined down Stant...

DIY 170° thermostat, by OE supplier Stant. A $20 project.

Once again, it is on there since it must be used to bring the OD up to the correct size in order to fit. It's the whole reason I state that it is part of the package, and a necessary modification for proper fit. Apparently I wasn't clear enough? The OE RT1225 obviously doesn't use the gasket...

DIY 170° thermostat, by OE supplier Stant. A $20 project.

I'm well aware. It's not based on whether there is a gasket or not, it's about the OD. The OE replacement has a diameter of 61mm, which is why the flange gasket is there: to allow a correct fit within the housing. I have been selling these for years, and as I've already mentioned, it's the same...

A twist and pull motion works - will come out easily. Wear gloves, too - the sharp edges will get you.

    3.0l piston tech

Good stuff. The 3.0L is definitely a step up from the 2.7L (which is no slouch), and Ford undoubtedly made some worthwhile upgrades to the pistons to handle additional boost. Curious also as to the weight difference as well. When I built the new aluminum-block custom engine for my '03 Cobra a...

Name ONE ST Feature others might not know.....

Not ST specific... In the previous generation Explorer, it was nice that the owner's manual booklet had a shelf inside the glove box to keep stashed. I thought it was odd that the new generation glovebox had a shelf/slot on the door (back right), but no way to secure the booklet. Turns out...

DIY 170° thermostat, by OE supplier Stant. A $20 project.

The timing was completely coincidental actually. I put together a four-page document for the Cobra guys and then had forgotten about this since it was just a matter of posting a few pictures. I couldn't care less about any of your other items - and actually hope you sell them well - but...

New Item: SPD cooler temp thermostat kits

Don't need to: the thermostat I wrote about has the same dimensions as the OE Motorcraft RT1225. Again, has been used in the 5.0 Coyote for years and is an exact fit. Can't say the same about the one at the top of this thread, but you'll find out soon enough. From my other site...

New Item: SPD cooler temp thermostat kits

The $40 means nothing to me as well, but to plenty it does. I had been selling a similar thermostat to the Mustang Cobra crowd for years: it was only about $25 less but hundreds of them moved easily. Most guys that turn their own wrenches dig bargains. This particular one also fits the Coyote...

New Item: SPD cooler temp thermostat kits

Popping out and swapping one piece is hardly "rebuilding crap", especially since it takes about 5 seconds. It's your cash though - just pointing out a way for anyone to save over $40, which in this day and age, is worthwhile.

When two items do the exact same thing, and you can purchase one for a third of the price, makes complete sense. Used to sell another version to the Mustang crowd since there was a significant price disparity and they moved quite well.

My main involvement with the car scene has been with the '03-'04 Cobra "Terminator" crowd that has gone back many years, including my own web site dedicated to the vehicle and its history: www.terminator-cobra.com. One of my side projects, that is on hold now due to the insanity of 2020, has...

Ford Performance Parts for 2020 Explorer ST

That is technically true if the tune will be based on the ProCal. Additionally, and if I recall correctly, the tune and anything associated with it has to be "installed" by a Ford dealer. Still not a bad way to go, and from conversations I've had with friends at FP, also looking forward to it in...

MagnaFlow Muffler/Resonator Swap and Stock Muffler Delete

You're getting terminology all mixed around here: the forward "muffler" is the resonator, the other two at the tail pipes are the mufflers. The resonator itself is there to change the sound in whatever way the engineers tune it. Even being "straight through", all the perforations in the tubing...

    ST Accessories/Modifications

It's the same item - just a stock picture on the Ford Accessories site. The new design is mediocre - they leave a large gap over the side mirror trim so as soon as you lower the window even just a bit there is a large hole there that lets in lots of air (or water). Pulled mine off after two...

MagnaFlow Muffler/Resonator Swap and Stock Muffler Delete

Thinking of leaving the mufflers in place and either replacing the resonator with an X-pipe or using the Dynomax Ultra-Flow muffler (which may not fit in to the stock location due to the offset of the OE resonator). Either way, should wake up the sound just a hair, but keep it in line with what...

Explorer ST Street And Track Packages

Lots of info on the web. There's also a page in the owners manual that spells out the specs along with info in the brochure. The Street/Track pack is essentially the same with the exception of "upgraded" pads for the Track Pack.
