Backfire and car sounds like its struggling to get gas through exhaust

Cant really fault just getting the Ford recommended Motorcraft plugs which are Iridium. Not sure if you can get stuff from Rockauto but their OE stuff is pretty cheap.

Backfire and car sounds like its struggling to get gas through exhaust

When's the last time you emptied the catch can? How many miles do you have? I'd be surprised if plugs had issues before 30k miles. After that, certainly the gap can get too large or other problems can blight them. Have you filled up on name brand gas or some shady gas station recently. Did...

    Snailfly Cross Bars

Those look similar to the OE crossbars. Just be aware that Ford doesn't recommend much weight up top... especially if you have the sunroof. I have the Skybox 18 as well and there is no way around exceeding the recommended limit. But the car is very stable if you drive sensibly. I have had to...

Tuxmat - is this supposed to be exposed between the captains chairs?

wrong one. the official Tuxmat pic looks like an explorer and not just some generic car pic.

    PIU struts/shocks

Installed the front PIU struts (LB5Z-18124-H PIU front right, LB5Z-18124-R PIU front left, $220 shipped from Levittown Ford) today. My Steeda springs definitely settled a little because I didn't need to use a spring compressor--just put a little force down on the strut mount and was able to...

    Dealer service pricing

It's a new type of scam. So you bring your car in for driveability issues. If they don't want to be bothered and call it "normal", then they'll bill you for the diagnostic. Never used to be like that and isn't so far at my dealership, but I'm hearing more and more stories.

I've never seen that in almost 4 years of ownership. I suggest you take it to the dealer.

    PIU struts/shocks

So with no Bilstein options (yet), I wanted a way to get firmer damping for my Steeda springs. The rear shocks replacement is an quick, easy way to see if Police Interceptor Utility (PIU) shocks offer more damping like some of the literature out there would suggest. I paid $103 each with $11...

Updating sync to the latest version of a home Wi-Fi

Who cares if Ford doesn't know what Sync vrrsion you are on? And turn off that connection to the home wifi and auto-update-/our batteries struggle as is without the power draw when off.

    DIY Headlight Painting

Not sure if our headlights are sealed with butyl rubber but baking in the oven for a few minutes has been the traditional way of opening light fixtures ie. softening the butyl rubber sealant. If it's a different sealant that needs to be cut out, then my mistake.

    Camara's and RADAR detectors

Uniden R7, Thinkware Q800Pro front/rear, Thinkware battery pack. I think the R7 is great. Love the display and the arrows are super useful. The Thinkware is only OK. Not great picture quality or resolution. It's been pretty reliable but limited to 128gb memory cards though. The battery pack...

    DIY Headlight Painting

You're not wrong that it would be so much better looking if we could paint the chrome to black. But these headlights are so expensive and it's easy to overdo the heat that I don't want to risk it.

rear swaybar comparison AFE vs Steeda?

Yeah, i was mulling the same. just the rears: super easy install, no alignment needed. I have 60k miles and could use shock replacement but tired of waiting for Bilstein. And if you are talking Steeda paint, one of my rear springs and the rear bar look terrible... heavy rust. Ive resorted...

rear swaybar comparison AFE vs Steeda?

I wonder if the PIU shocks/struts are indeed firmer than the STs? They are almost double the cost. Seems more like Ford is overcharging the government than the cost to retool for stiffer shocks. Maybe they are the same part, just relabelled. Anyone drive both and care to comment? Especially...

    Wobble in the Rear

Not sure if you've read, but the lethal rear springs are FLAWED. I would not have even put those on if I were you and waited until they corrected things.
