This Is What The Ford Explorer ST Should Sound Like

Not bad, but V6’s just don’t sound all that great, muffled or not.

Dripping in Driveway at Cold Start

I’ve experienced it with all my cars, even my Harley. Totally normal, turbo or not.

    New ST Owner

Congrats and welcome! Mine took like 3-4 weeks to show up. Where in So Cal are you? I lived there up until 5 years ago; Anaheim Hills.

High Performance Brakes vs. Performance Brakes

Can anyone comment on if the High Performance Brakes make more brake dust than standard brakes or more than the Street package that doesn’t have the HP pads?

    hvac/defroster vent issue

I was hoping mine turned out to be the diverter. I have only warm air after about 30-45 minutes of driving. It turned out to be the heater core and to get to it, the entire dash board, steering column and center console has to come out.

    speed-sensitive volume?

That’s the simulated engine sound that comes through the sound system in Sport mode that they’re talking about. Most of the manufacturers are doing this now. I always thought it was kind of cheesy.

    Fuel Grade

If you’re ever going to use premium it’s when you’re towing or driving hard. Higher octane means less chance of detonation. Detonation occurs at higher throttle settings under boost and although there’s knock sensors that will adjust the timing and AFR, I’d play it safe and use premium while...

    Tow to the dealer....

Hopefully it was just air pockets in the cooling system from when they drained and refilled it. The coolant level drops when those air pockets “burp” out so it just may need to be topped off.

    Oil Catch Can Thread

No performance benefit other than reducing performance loss due to build up on the intake valves. Consider it as preventative maintenance.

    Oil Catch Can Thread

It’s an oil/air separator for the PCV system; reduces the amount of oil mist entering the intake. Theoretically, it keeps the intake valves from coking on direct injection engines since there’s no fuel going through the port to wash the valves down.

    Whirring and sounds.

It’s normal. It happens again after sitting for a while when things shut down too.

Heater takes a very long time to start warming

Yep; you’re right, it does have to be fixed and we’ll hope for the best. BTW, I see you’re from Whittier. I was born and raised there. Lived at the top of Hadley in Whittier Hills. Miss that place!

Heater takes a very long time to start warming

Got the news yesterday that the heater core is most likely the issue. There’s been a few 2020 Explorers with the same problem and it turned out to be the heater cores are internally plumbed incorrectly. The entire dash has to come out to get to the heater core. Not a happy camper right now. This...

How do you dry your washed car?

The best way is an electric leaf blower; will not put those fine swirl marks/scratches in the paint. I used to always use one despite the funny looks I got from my neighbors lol! It’s especially important with black paint too.

Several warranty issues- have you had the same?

Heater takes at least 30 minutes of driving to start blowing warm air; never hot, only warm and it intermittently goes back to cold. It’s going in on Tuesday (2nd time for this, first time they said it’s normal). It most likely has something to do with the climate control sensors but I hope they...
