Having fun without losing towing capability

Most performance tunes recommend no towing unless it is specifically meant for that purpose. ZFG has tow specific tunes, and I'm pretty sure towing is not supported on the performance and race versions they sell. I've read something about the exhaust temperatures getting hot enough to cause...

Having fun without losing towing capability

The notes on FP tune on the Ford site states "**Trailer towing not recommended**". If you don't want to jack with warranty coverage and tow at rated capacity, you are gonna want to stick with stock tuning.

    Intercooler

I did mine without jacking it up or removing the front tires. Just make sure you keep a count of all the harnesses you disconnect. My parking sensors were crying after I got (almost) everything back together because I'd missed a harness on the driver's side. Fortunately it was something I could...

    Vossen 22” with 42mm offset

Aren't the stock 9" wide rims +37? I wouldn't think anything +42 would be a great idea on our ST's. Either going to sink into the well or drag the suspension.

    Intercooler

It isn't so much about the engine bay heat, but the stock IC is very undersized and gets overwhelmed quickly under boost conditions, resulting in 200 deg F intake, which will back down boost, timing, and power. The aftermarket ones available keep that intake temp much cooler so you can maintain...

    Intercooler

FWIW, I sent my initial data logs for my ZFG DMS tune before installing the IC. I did final logging after installing the revised tune and IC. All I got back was an email saying everything looked great, no new revision. Point is, you should be ok with doing the tune before the IC. It will...

    Key Fob

I got curious and put this to the test moments ago. With my keys on the ground, the driver door stops opening once the keys are about 6 ft away.

    Front end clunk/rattle

Just got mine back today after putting it in for a passenger side clunking/rattle. Service rep said it was the strut top mount, but when I picked it up, she had 2 brand new struts with new top mounts and sway bar links. Only cost me $100 with the extended warranty. He said they've had several...

    Timberline Skid plate

Wish I had the answer you are looking for. My order with Levittown placed on 12/13/2023 still shows "In Progress". I'd avoid them for now.

    Adding Sub Woofer

I'd imagine most people disconnect the factory sub when using something aftermarket, but there is no technical reason you can't keep it connected and still feed the line converter. I had my front speakers tapped that way briefly in an attempt to get around the sub volume issue.

    Adding Sub Woofer

I recently went down this road for the same reason you noted. Be prepared to invest a lot more time and money than it took to add the sub. The A2B converter will cost >$500 and force you to buy another amp with enough channels to drive however many speakers you want to keep alive. Not sure what...

    Oil/Trans/Diff Smell?

My transmission cooler sprung a leak early on and was pissing on the hot exhaust. You may want to check your exhaust pipes around the tranny, it was pretty obvious to me where the oil was landing on it. This is evidently a common issue with the original cooler. Since the leak was only active...

    ZFG DMS

There is a noticeable change in handling when I dial from Normal to Sport. I'm not sure how much can be attributed to engine vs transmission. The dynos I've seen don't show a dramatic HP increase from performance to race. In sport, the shifts are very firm. Also, I never noticed the tires...

    ZFG DMS

There is no option for tow except tow. As I understand it, there is specific management in that mode to prevent disastrous outcomes under rated loads. There are plenty other options to place other settings anyway.

    ZFG DMS

I just installed the 1st rev of this tune myself, so more data logging to do. Based on the dyno charts I've seen, daily driver should have a noticeable power increase over stock. That said, I imagine most people getting this are setting DD on a lesser-used mode that may impose other detuning...

Which Amp Channels Power Which Speakers?

Agreed. I have a NavTV Zen A2B, Arc Audio Blackbird, all new drivers for the front doors, and boxes of wire and noise dampening waiting for install. Had big plans to get installation going this weekend, but whatever is going on with my achilles is gonna put it on hold for a bit.

Which Amp Channels Power Which Speakers?

Lol. Maybe both takes are correct… https://www.foexplorer.com/ford_explorer_description_and_operation_information_and_entertainment_system_system_operation_and_component_description-1067.html

Which Amp Channels Power Which Speakers?

i had my door panel off today. The tweeter has a cap on it... its part of the removable assembly. The harness looks like an octopus, so you can't really tell if the speakers share channels. However, given they capped the tweeter, it is likely fed with another speaker. I believe the image I...

Which Amp Channels Power Which Speakers?

That’s why I’ve been rocking a line converter, amp, and sub for years now. If you keep the volume below 15 and do not need flexibility to tune the sound quality, an add-on sub offers a marked improvement and can make you happy. I’ve been mostly happy, but there are some things I’ve been wanting...

    Wheel Spacers

I previously posted top-down pics with 1.25" spacers all around with 295/40s on the stock 21" rims. They do indeed stick out, so much that I will likely remove the spacers. This isn't much of a problem in fair weather, but when it rains there is a big difference in the road film build-up...
