    ST vs. The Competition

+1 Had a BMW 335i running mid 12's with mixed E85 and piggyback tune clocking almost 120k miles. Most I ever spent outside of oil and tires? $1,000 for an oil pan gasket and electric water pump, those went out around 90k miles, past the CPO warranty. Owned it for about 5 years as well. Only...

    Real world mpg

Same for me, mainly highway driving is spot on to what the computer says. Mainly City driving is off by 2-3 MPG

Is the interior REALLY that bad??

Somewhat right, in late 2020/early 2021. The 2020 Explorer's were actually being discounted to the 2021 Explorer's price. So you get all the materials and "extras" on a new 2020 for the price of a 21 missing said items. Both new and fully loaded.

who has the scoop on the '23 model?

Its not a knock against the ST and the great price you got it is not the norm nor was it back then either. Im going by standard prices. Someone here got an X5 fully loaded x40i for 64k~, MSRP was 70+. His ST was 60k. Normally X5's with some options are in the 63-64k area around me. My 20...

who has the scoop on the '23 model?

Hence opinion. The X5 40i gets better MPG, is faster on a straight line vs the ST and can also tow more. Smaller on the inside with the 3rd row but better fit and finish. So just whatever a person would prefer but wouldnt say the ST is a unique class, there are comparable SUV's The X5 M50i is a...

who has the scoop on the '23 model?

In your opinion. The Aviator and optioned out X5 can be had for 3-4k more vs a fully loaded ST, they're also similar in performance just MUCH nicer interior. Of course not everyone wants a luxury car either. So all boils down to what a person wants.

    2022 Ford Explorer Platinum ST

Im pretty damn positive the slight higher gearing will net you .1 faster on the 1/4 mile MAYBE .2 on a great day. Made a nice impact on the earlier 5 speed and somewhat on the 6 speed. 10 speed auto's? Not soo much... Will tow nicer around the mountains, thats probably the main advantage over it.

    10.1 Inch Screen Resolution?

Curious if you can make the screen bigger on Carplay/Android auto, make the reverse screen bigger AND automatically turn the front camera when front sensors turn on. Love this feature on Cadillacs

    10.1 Inch Screen Resolution?

If you're talking about recording and saving,Teslas have built in storage drives for recording, the Explorer's don't.

2022 Wireless Charger too small for some phones

Its extremely slow wireless charging anyways, you're not missing out on anything. If they offered 10+watt wireless charging, then yeah it would be something be upset about.

Poll: How many have experienced a "rear axle bolt fracture" (POLL CLOSED 6-4-22)

The thing about this recall, it only states the 3.3l engines for the Police. None for the 3.0l ecoboost. On the Explorer's side, it doesnt state specific ones, so could mean all of them including the Limited, XLT and ST-Line. Im pretty sure none of the ST/Platinum owners from 2020 will ever...

Why we didn't buy an Explorer ST, and other various thoughts

You're not wrong, you just used the wrong trim. That's like using a Platinums performance numbers for the ST. Weight and suspension play a big role in both aviators.... MT tested the Aviator and ST as well.... ST had similar numbers vs C&D's, the Reserve on the other hand were much different vs...

Why we didn't buy an Explorer ST, and other various thoughts

And I said 5-6k more aka Reserve. As I stated, MT tested two Aviator vehicles. A black label is 20k+ more and weights more. You're comparing a heavier more expensive vehicle. And yes, a drivers race...

Why we didn't buy an Explorer ST, and other various thoughts

Not sure where you got a second slower? MT did a test on two Aviators, one had the Hybrid engine. Hybrid clocked the same 1/4 mile but faster trap speed vs the ST. The other Aviator was 2-3 tenths of a second slower vs both, which is almost nothing, still a drivers race. Both similar priced or...

Why we didn't buy an Explorer ST, and other various thoughts

I take it if the ST had at least 450hp, this thread wouldnt even made? Performance numbers, the ST sits between the RT and SRT, closer to the SRT actually. Far as more interior space, believe it or not, the Explorer has more cargo space, seats up or down especially behind the 3rd row seat. Try...

Why we didn't buy an Explorer ST, and other various thoughts

Hence my quotation marks. I like the Explorer's interior but there are pretty obvious misaligned areas as well as cheap plastics, most noticeable by the start button. The Durango just presents it better. How well it holds up with time is a different story. Im still fighting with the wind sound...

Why we didn't buy an Explorer ST, and other various thoughts

The ST is compared to the SRT since they're both the "sporty" version of their family. In reality, the ST is closer direct comparison to the RT, price point, power wise, options, etc. But the ST annihilates the RT in practically everything but towing, sound and "fit and finish".] So they rather...

Went to do an oil change and found this ….

I was here hoping it was a 10 MM socket lol Probably a tool that was left behind when it was being built

    Reconsidering Explorer ST

We have a full jogger stroller and it fits behind the 3rd row. A bit snug, but it fits. If you want to add anything else though like a bag, itll barely fit one side but thats about it. Dont need to remove any adapters or anything either. Interesting about that, the new Aviators are advertised...

    Reconsidering Explorer ST

Oh no doubt they will drop in price but dont think it will be a nice drop in price either, im sure itll hold very well. The Escalade V is a totally different luxury competitor, IMO, the Durango Hellcat is (was?) the best 3rd row bang for buck SUV. Escalades are already 100+k as is, cant imagine...
