You only need maintenance mode to do the rear brakes. If it was me. Discount the battery. Replace the front brake and bleed the front. Reconnect the battery.

The pump will kick on when you open the bleeder screw. That set off alot of fault in the system. Was lucky to use Forscan to clean all the codes. You can unplug the battery and bleed the old way.

The rear shield can not removes unless you remove the rear hub. I would cut a slit at the picture below.

The front brake shield will work just fine. I remove the rear brake shield. Hammer flat and reinstalled. But has to make a new hole for the bottom bolt.

You can release the parking brakes and disconnected the battery from the car. Block the front wheels. I did use a 12v power probe to unscrew the parking brakes from the new red brakes caliper ( new to me, bought used from this forum).

I guess the tech is blind. Still said no metal in the filter.
