Were you using Carplay? I have had this happen multiple times with carplay. If I soft reboot Sync (hold down power and FFWD buttons) it boots up fine and then I can replug the phone back into the usb cable.
I like the idea of it, but it's poor execution. Horrid use of space and the Android auto is glitchy. It's just a poorly designed interface, they need to take some tips from Chrysler on how to do a good touch screen.
I presume it wont be a given, but it should be. I really am treating how easy the upgrade could be as a litmus test for whether that screen is a pos or not.
I have reached the same conclusion... However our GM tells me that it will be coming as a download later this year still. Not that he hasn't been wrong before, but he spent a lot of years @ Ford prior and maintains contacts there. He is right about a lot of stuff seems like.

This is my 2nd ST I've owned (last one was a 2013 Focus ST). And I've been hearing that line told FOR YEARS.
There is no way to download Sync 3 into Sync 2; same goes for Sync 4 into Sync 3. It's just not possible. All new hardware will be required and Ford isn't going to give that away!
Unless ... we could get a downsized version of 4. Sort of like when a new iOS version comes out and older models without the proper hardware miss out on features (example: face ID requires new hardware so it's only implemented on models that have that hardware.)
I DOUBT Ford has the desire to do this ... but they certainly COULD if they wanted to!

Haven’t seen anyone discuss this, since some don’t care for the vertical screen and the way it doesn’t use the whole screen like for backing up....would the screen from the aviator be a plug and play option?
