I am trying to find the plug used to connect a brake controller to my 2025 Ford Explorer ST. I pulled down the cover under the steering column to look for it and couldn't find it. This was where it was located in my 2020 ST. Has anyone actually found the brake controller connector for a 2025? If they have, I'd really appreciate some guidance. A picture would be great.

I have a Curt brake controller on my 25’ ST. The wiring harness is under the dash on the drivers side with a dummy grey connector stuck in it just like previous years. The wire harness is also firmly connected in place by a clip- also like previous years. I don’t have pictures to provide at the moment but I promise you that it’s all there.

Thanks for the reply. I'll go back in and look again. Where did you mount your controller?

After your encouragement, I went back and looked harder. The key for me was completely removing the shiny black cover above the brake pedal in addition to the pretty cover under the steering wheel. I couldn't get a good picture, but the connector is directly above the brake pedal. It is the same connector as for my 2020 ST.

I don't think I'd be able to mount mine in the position your is. I am a large person with mobility issues and based on the trouble I had locationing the controller in my previous ST, I feel that location would scrape my leg as I am getting in. A similar location on the other side will be better. I am going to design a bracket to mount it over next to the steering column.

Thanks for your help!

I had this controller in my 2022 ST and it was mounted to the fuse panel cover that was in the general area of where this controller is mounted in the 25' ST. My knee would hit it a lot in the 22'. I can say that there is much more room in the lower dash area on the 25' than in the 22'. I do not at all hit this one with my knee and I am 6' 1" tall. Not sure if that changes your thoughts but I wanted to pass that along.

For my 2020 I 3D printed a replacement for the cover you are talking about. Most of the controller was inside the dash, only the controls stuck out. My first thought for mounting the controller was cutting a hole in the cover and again mounting it so most of the connector is in the dash. Unfortunately there isn’t a lot of room on the left side of the steering column inside the dash. I am working on a solution to mount it on the right side of the steering column.

I wish Ford would make a factory integrated trailer brake controller standard with a towing package in all trucks and SUV’s, not just some. They add a lot of other BS no one gives a damn about but they leave something as obvious as this, out.. .

I came up with a mounting location for my Trailer Brake Controller. Right side of steering column just under protruding edge of the dash. IMG_8450.jpg IMG_8449.jpg
