Part of me buying an ST was the incredible tunability of these motors. It’s not everyday you see an SUV in the 10s

As I’ve painfully learned, there are no tunes available for the 2025 cars. And even more painfully, possible ever

My question is why has Ford locked down the ECUs so much? The s650 Mustang has the same lockout. Less than 1% of all cars get modified, let alone these cars. Emissions seem like a bs excuse. And often times, tuned cars burn cleaner, thus produce less emissions, when tuned. And that’s before e-fuels

So why would the ECUs be locked-out?

Call 5 Star and see if it's not possible, or if they just haven't developed them yet

It’s not possible and even if it was 5 Star would be the next to last place to recommend. Last would be SSI.

OP…they’re locked they say because of security issues but a big reason is to stop 3rd party tuning effecting emission crap. I’m sure on some level it’s government driven.

I think it’s all emissions based pressure from gov. They started with the diesel engines. I’m guessing partly due to those that like to tune for rolling coal. I drove diesels for many years and they seemed to start about 8-10 years ago to make it increasingly more difficult or expensive to tune. On my last diesel it was an add on ECU. Think they are just moving to gas engines because, you know, global warming, I mean climate change

I think emissions is the main reason, but Ford also may see locking the PCM have other good effects too (for them at least). They could possibly corner the aftermarket modification corner if no one can crack it and ease of warranty investigations (probably a far reach though).

RaceChip would be the only alternative. I don't have one myself but I believe there are a few lads here that bought one and swear by it. Tunes for our 25s wont be available probably as early as the end of this year or as far out as 2 years. Who knows...

No way I’d add power to these without being able to tune the TCM.
Yeah no way would I go with plug in either on any vehicle let alone a twin turbo. Significantly raises the chance your motor has a short life imo.

A lot of the "canned" tunes or "off the shelf" tunes modify the vehicles emissions like disabling the rear O2 sensor or the EGR system. They get away with selling these by putting "For off road use only" or "For competition use only" on them. The government has been cracking down on those who manufacture and sell these tunes. They also have pushed auto manufacturers to beef up the encryption in the ECU programming. I know ZFG has jumped through all the hoops to become compliant with the EPA and CARB. It's no easy or cheap feat either! Tuning new vehicles has become more difficult and more expensive to do.

To me Racechip is an option, but not worth possibly voiding warranty for.
