22” Wheels??

I’m looking to run a 285/40/22 tire on a 22x10.5 30 offset wheel. Will I have rubbing issues once’s lowered on steeda or eibach springs? Reason I want to run that tire size is it’s the exact same height (31”) as the stock 255/55/20’s.

You will be perfectly fine but I think it is absolutely useless. You can run up to 315s which give these cars a really meaty tire setup, and all that money you spent on rims is going to be worth it. Your speedometer will be slightly off, but it will be worth it.

You can call it useless if you want. But for my needs it’s perfect. It’s not a race car it’s a 4600lb family car that my wife drives. I want to keep the 40 sidewall because the roads here are terrible. I really don’t think my wife or I need the 3/4’s of an inch more contact path on a 305 tire. Especially with only a tune on this thing. So to spend more money on a larger tire to me is useless. So as the saying goes to each their own.

You don't need a 10.5 wide wheel to run a 285, you can go with a 22x9 they are cheaper. I had the factory 20's on my 21 and I ran a 285/40/22 continental on 22x9's for summer use. They fit perfectly like the wheel was made for a 285 tire, small bulge but not too much.

Well in that case, why are you going for such an aggressive wheel setup, why not a smaller rim tire setup that’ll be cheaper?

Needs or not a 285 on a 10.5 is a waste of effort and money. Run a 305/40 and you’ll have better fit and virtually the same OD. If you’re worried about the roads you wouldn’t be looking at 22’s to begin with…you’d stay with 20’s.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I have decided to go with a 305 tire. The price really isn’t much different. Currently deciding between a 35 and 40 series sidewall. Will a 40 fit being lowered on h&r’s?

22x10.5 +32 offset. Tires are P-zero 305/40. Not lowered, yet. No rub and as you can see the best wheel on this forum.

Lowering springs (at least the ones available) don't change if tires will rub or not. It’s just changing suspension ride height geometry.

Thanks, I ended up going with a 35 tire. I might switch to a 40 on the next set. Really depends on tire options at the time.

Usually the only rubbing is when theirs a large angle that makes the suspension compress and stretch on the different sides and even then it’s just the fender liner.

I’ve got 305/40’s on a set of velgens. Eibach springs. When I go over hard bumps or high way bumps I get some pretty nasty rubbing sounds. It’s not affecting forward motion or anything but is pretty unbearable to hear. Just drove from Florida to Maine and back. I’m thinking of getting a smaller diameter tire. Was just wondering if anyone else had experienced this.

Interesting. I know some people have used zip ties to pull the fender liner more out of the fender so that might help some of the rubbing.
