Yes it should be under powertrain warranty. Find another dealer!
I've been reading several threads where you and some other members posted about your dealer covering various front axle TSBs, AWD modules, etc. under the powertrain warranty. We are hopefully getting my mom's back from the dealership soon for what we feel falls under TSB 23-2061, and she's outside of the bumper to bumper warranty as well. We are hoping Ford will cover it, but would you or any any of the others be willing to share a copy of your invoice where your dealer covered the repairs under powertrain warranty? I've been looking around and maybe you already posted it somewhere.... I found one invoice where all of the front axle TSB issues were addressed on a 2020 with like 41K and outside of bumper to bumper so that was helpful too. We're just looking to have multiple examples of where Ford is covering these repairs in case the dealership tries to charge us. Thanks in advance!

I finally got it to the dealer and they said the AWD module needs to be replaced as I thought. They said the total including diagnosis is $839.47. It's feeling like they aren't going to cover it under the powertrain warranty. I'm just not sure if I want to fight it right now or get it over with.

Here we go again. So what ya say about me going back to the dealership to fix the AWD module a second time. The service write-up tech. Was not happy the first time with my explorer. Kept finding problems after problems. I didn't tell him to fix all that. He did it on his own. When he called me for vechile pickup. I asked if it was covered. He said he wouldn't have fixed it if it wasn't. Seem to me some stuff he fixed extra. Well, the Explorer was brand new again back in August until today. Pulling into Zaxbys and threw all 6 faults back on again. So what ya say. Should I try a different dealership an see if they fix it. Because Fairway Ford definitely ain't gonna fix it. They won't even call me back about the Reverse blue camera recall. I want my Chevy Impala back

I just had this done under powertrain warranty. I had the codes and grinding noise when turning backing in and out or making a u-turn and the car also drove lurchy with intermittent disconnecting and reconnecting of front axle AWD. It took about a week to complete and was provided a free rental car. I have 49,700 miles and 8 months left on Powertrain Warranty!

Anyone have this issue and it just be the battery? I'm getting same thing but only comes on with adverse temp change (NE Ohio); like 5 degrees all January but yesterday was almost 50. Goes away after restarting vehicle. Doesn't come on with every drive.

You should run a scan to see what codes come up. A lot of different faults have the same dash warnings.

Does the awd module need to be programmed or is it plug and play?

It has to be programmed. Mine keep going out. Now my explorer feels like it wants to shut off. After time i ⛽️ fill it up. While it's running. Great don't know if it's the fuel pump or something else. Almost didn't turn over on my fill up this morning

If the AWD module issue is intermittent and you get the codes for it, you should at least try the grounding mode listed in the TSB. Dealers don't seem to want to do it and push for a new AWD module--whether covered under warranty or not. It's probably just easier for them. I don't think it's coincidence that those with failed AWD modules happen to be Explorers that fall under the AWD grounding build dates.

A new module is like 200 bucks, where are they getting 1700 from?

I had the TSB 23-2174 and I drove the car for awhile with no issues. Currently at shop for fix under extended warranty. Anyways, I had the same symptoms and car was fine. It'll probably disconnect your awd so it'll be rwd until it's replaced. And your cruise control and certain sensors will be turned off until it's fixed. But mechanically it should be ok. No guarantees ofcourse

$1500 in labor to replace a 4WD module? You have to take the drivers seat out because it's under the carpet and the seat. A lot of them just had bad grounds. I would check the connection first. If you have to replace it, it does need to be programmed to your car.
