Hey Guys,

I have been cursed also now with the 6 Faults and 4x4 Fault, Collision Avoidance Fault, Hill Assist Fault etc etc.

Car has been 3 weeks at Dealer. I gave them the TSB on the Speed Sensor thinking it was that. Nope. They say its fine.

After 3 weeks they tewll me that the AWD Module is not communicating and needs replacing. My ST has 47k miles. Guess what, the AWD module is NOT covered by Powertrain Warranty, According to them.

I opened up a case with Ford Care. I guess I am going to fight them but just get it fixed first. They tell me $875 for Parts and Labor.

This is also while its waiting for the Catalytic Converters recall. They cant get parts!

Anyone else been down this road yet? I need to dig into the PowerTrain Warranty I guess.

Chris

How can that not be under the Powertrain Warranty? Hopefully Ford Corporate can help you out. BTW, Just had my LH cat converter done. Took about 5 weeks to get the part.

In any case, I wish you had did a diagnostic scan before going to the dealer. "Lost communication" codes are not usual to find when I do random scans but are usually temporary anomalies. I'd be curious what codes they pulled. There is a speed sensor code if that failed. In my case, it would go away after clearing but would recur days/weeks later until I replaced it.

Thanks Cdub. Yes mine has always done this, and gone away after turning car off just about since it was new. I even gave them the TSB on the Speed Sensor, they swear it tests OK.
I agree, how is that not Powertrain? Thanks for the ideas!

Have you looked at this thread? Both speed sensor and AWD module problems- resulting in same set of codes.

That's what I said. I even gave them the TSB with the Speed Sensor Part Number and details! I am now fighting with Ford Care as we speak on hold on the phone. The agent on the phone suggested to me that I probably caused the module to fail from neglect! I cant make this stuff up. Im like What? And they have not even contacted the dealer yet.I told her, "You realize this module is in the interior of the vehicle?

At the point I am just going to repair and take them to court I guess. Lesson learned. I have been a loyal customer for 20+ years. I cant believe this is how they treat customers nowadays.

A new Day, and a new fight. Going to reach out to the dealers General manager to see if any luck. Almost going on 4 weeks without the vehicle.

Well, Just updating, they replaced the AWD module in the front drivers seat area. I will update this thread with the part number of the module. All said and done was $700 or so , and I got tired of fighting. Oh well. 500 miles or so since and it has been OK. Keeping fingers crossed.

Hey. I get all those fault messages on my ST display. brought it to the dealer on March 28th and they said they verified concern of those messages was pinpoint test for code C0631 found that my front axle disconnect was faulty and on on paper from dealer it says It is being re manufactured and not avail till may this year. so I have been driving my ST just rear wheel drive. I do notice I hear like almost like a deep whining noise or something when I accelerate. I hope that is not messing my ST up bc I told my case working for Ford that if something happens to my ST for the month I have to wait for a part I WILL BE GOING AFTER FORD! I pi**ed!

Good luck Rich. I just got my car out of dealer was there for 2 months. Update to this, my 7/6 downshift was banging HARD. Its the snap ting TSB. Ended up getting a whole new transmission. Had to wait for parts took forever. Im back with FordCare now and trying to get then to give me an extended warranty. Its been literally ridiculous.

Yep. Bad 4 WD module. It triggered all the other codes. My extended warranty covered it. One day to replace.

Just went through this. Had error messages for 4wd, hill start assist, traction control, whole bunch of other shit. 6 error messages, 8 OBD2 codes, all diagnosed as a faulty AWD Module, part # L1MZ 7P238 A, covered under the powertrain warranty. Good thing it crapped out when it did - 98,952km when I checked it in, 100,000 is the end of the base powertrain (and the extended) warranty.

Being that the module is part of the control system that controls the powertrain, I’m surprised others have said their warranty didn’t cover it. Well…I guess I’m not that surprised…

I purchased a used 2021 ST with factory warranty in December. Loved the vehicle until 2 weeks ago when I experienced the same TCM, 4WD, etc. faults mentioned on this thread. Dealer replaced it in one day. ST was fine then 1 week ago I had the same faults. This time it took 3 days to fix. Dealer was great and gave me an Explorer loaner.

After the 2nd time that happened, I traded in my 2021 ST (for $5K more than I paid), and purchased a new 2023 ST. Hopefully I have better luck with my new ST.

We just started getting the same thing about a week ago. Dealership told us the same thing more or less. Bumper to bumper just expired 1500 miles ago, go figure. Most definitely should be included in the power train. Vehicle drives totally fine. I figured out also how to still be able to use all drive modes. Not sure what I’m gonna do next

My dealership repaired this and the CV boot leaks under powertrain warranty.

Thank you. I honestly think that they were more interested in trying to get the car from us. They tried getting my wife into a brand new edge platinum and we’re almost successful.

How many miles was on your explorer when you took it in for service. My service advisor mentioned 36,000 miles. But my ford pass and ford website says warranty is good for until December 2024 or 60,000 miles. What exactly expires at 36,000? I thought 36,000 miles was for bumper to bumper protection. And powertrain was 60,000 miles
